The backside of the Service Boulder

Description

The rock is granite, though it is solid, it has some spray paint from slack-jawed troglodytes exercising sophomoric nit-wittery. Most of the rock is less than vertical or vertical, with mantle top outs on pebbles and crystals. Bring DEET in the summer, because there are hordes of mosquitoes.

Getting There

Take New Seward HWY to the Dimond exit and go left, this becomes Abbott. Follow Abbott for a few miles until there is a large parking lot on the left side of the road. This is the entrance for Hilltop ski area. Park in the lot on Abbott, don't enter the Hilltop area, or the approach is longer. The approach is about 10 minutes from the parking lot. Initially, the boulder is hard to find, because of the layout of the trails, but after that, the transit time, from car to the boulder is quick. Check the link on the provided Google map.
