Matanuska Glacier is a great place to escape to when you are having ice cravings in the middle of summer. With very easy access and all the ice you want to climb it is a very fun place. The weather is nice and cool in the summer and in the winter can be very very cold. The weekends bring out the tourist and the Anchorage crowd. If you go during the week you will probably have the place all to yourself.
Getting There
From Anchorage take the Glenn Highway (Highway 1) all the way through Palmer and past Chickaloon to the Glacier Park Resort. It is right at a 100 mile drive. You must pay a day pass fee and a camping fee if you want to stay there overnight. Regular Admission is $20 Military and Student is $10. Senior Citizen is $15. Camping is $15 a night.
