Description

Excellent isolated setting that has superb views and some worthy climbs. On the south-eastern aspect of the East Grapefruits Dome, and situated high above the North fork of Globe Creek, Crackland constitutes one in a set of backside area crags that are extensions of the same limestone band that overlooks the area. Quality rock exists and the routes should clean up with some traffic.

Getting There

Travel North from Fairbanks on the Elliot Highway. You will pass Wickersham Dome trailhead at Milemarker 28 and at about Milemarker 38 you will pass Globe Creek with the crags visible on the low rising dome on the right side of the highway. Before the obvious side cut, and the turn off for the East Grapefruit Area, take a right on a dirt road that is guarded by a red gate. Park here if gate is locked, if not continue up the road (close gate behind you) to a parking area. At the far end of the parking area is a trail that traverses East to the backside of the dome. There are cairns that mark trail along the way; the trail is becoming more apparent as it sees more use. Traversing some talus slopes you will notice some smaller crags uphill, and the trail continues until you run into Crackland. Approach time takes 20 to 25 minutes.

I think (like 90% sure) Frank Olive is responsible for cleaning/equipping most of the routes listed here in the Crackland area. Summer of 2002 or 2003 maybe?
