Description

Not nearly as popular or crowded as the West Butt, the lower altitude and steep rock and ice aspects make this an Alpinist's dream. Summit rate is <40% due to weather and deep snow conditions on the upper mountain. Also no permits or advanced registration required!

Getting There

Highly dependent on the intended route. Most popular are the North Face routes and West Ridge which are both a short ski from the KIA. The Northeast face is reached from the Tokositna or one of the eastern forks of the Kahiltna . Alpinist 9 features the mountain with photos of route outlines.

Careful routefinding is needed to avoid the icefall zones while navigating around the crevasses. This is highest risk of rock or icefall on the entire route.
