Description Suggest change

Akyarlar is a unique, beachside climbing location with a small, private beach, swimming, bouldering, and around 17 climbing routes.

Climbing routes at Akyarlar range from around 5.9 to 5.12 and may seem a touch harder due to the slick nature of the white limestone.

A great spot for a picnic and a swim. There’s no facilities or food/water available so plan accordingly. Please pack out your trash (and maybe take some with you...there seems to be plenty especially on the approach trail).

While the white, smooth rock looks mostly solid, some of the broken areas have loose holds.

Great location, routes with good position, options for swimming...Akyarlar…put ‘er on the list!

Getting There Suggest change

This description of how to reach the crag will assume that one is heading there from Antalya.

From the D400 highway, the Antalya-Kemer road, south of Antalya, note the turn off to Büyük Çaltýcak. Beach prior to going through the first of two tunnels. The crag is just south, over the small hill and back down to the beach, from the Büyük Çaltýcak Beach.

Go through both tunnels then make a U turn and pass back through both tunnels. Upon exiting the second tunnel (the one closest to Antalya), take the immediate right turn on the old highway. Follow this road as it goes uphill and makes a sharp right hand bend. At the end of the right hand bend is a pullout on the right. Park here. Note the old blue sign that’s partially hidden at the left end of the parking lot. Also note, at the uphill (left) end of the parking lot are stairs and the cave going back under the road. Look back at the bend and note the camouflaged cell phone tower on the beach side of the road.

Across the road from the uphill (cave) side of the car park, there’s a trail which travels a short distance south before going steeply down the scree slope to the beach. Once at the beach, look left, voila, you’re there.

Take care on the steep and somewhat loose approach.

Not leaving anything in the car is probably a great idear.

Note that as of fall 2014, guidebooks will have the approach slightly different. The old approach assumed the car park prior to the tunnel off the main road, but, currently both north/south roads use the same initial tunnel bypassing the old tunnel and road.

One could also pay to access Büyük Çaltıcak Beach (10 Turkish lira in fall 2014). Drive over to the abandoned seaside building, nearest the small hill separating the crag from Büyük Çaltıcak Beach. Hike over the hill and back up to the old highway and drop down to the beach as per the above.
