How crazy is the ADK on Columbus Day weekend? Thinking of going to poko.

Not all holiday weekends are that bad in the Adirondacks although Columbus day for us also lines up with Canadian Thanksgiving which, especially if you are considering Poko, may increase traffic quite a bit. Poko is just down 87 from Montreal.

Someone with first hand experience might have more helpful beta but that's my thought.

Regarding Poke-O; Instead of seeing one or two other parties there you might see as many as 7 or 8. I've spent many days there and it has never been all that busy. Despite there being hundreds of excellent pitches to chose from, most don't get too much traffic.

Please refer to this extensive thread. The answers given are relevant to any holiday weekend (plus there's some really entertaining side show too!)

You will most certainly be able to find great routes open over Columbus weekend. If your goal is to get on Gamesmanship, maybe aim for an early start or be prepared to enjoy some time talking to folks ahead of you. IMO, even busier weekends at Poke-o you can walk right up to nearly any route. Afterall, this is the ADKs, not the Gunks.

Columbus day itself is pretty light from my experience, which generally involves spending 2-4 days in the Dacks columbus day weekend.

However, Saturday and Sunday are typically crowded. So avoid those days or go someplace obscure.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
