Fellow Climbers, We need your help to influence the latest Merced River Plan, which could restrict climbing access and camping in Yosemite Valley, depending on how the Park prepares its new revised user capacity program. At issue is access to iconic climbs including those found on The Rostrum, Cookie Cliff, and Middle Cathedral Rock (everything ¼ mile on either side of the river). This plan will also affect all travel through the management area to locations just outside the river corridor, which brings into play all climbing in Yosemite Valley including El Capitan and even Half Dome. Another consequence of this litigation is the increased likelihood that camping will become even more scarce while the number of lodging units remains largely unchanged. Please write Yosemite National Park by February 4 and support the preservation of climbing access in the Valley! With our easy-to-use letter writing tool, it only takes two minutes to make your voice heard. Thanks for your support, Your Friends at the Access Fund www.accessfund.org

Bump. This is super easy, takes about 30 seconds if you don't read the letter. Not like it would be the first time you signed something without reading it (cell phone contract, credit card contract, mortgage, traffic ticket...).

Sure wish the NPS would leave well enough alone, this seems like a constant battle concerning Yosemite. I sent my letter.

Everyone please submit. For me it comes down to if access fund thinks it is an important issue then we need to listen. And please if you are not a member of access fund join! They do so much for the climbing community.

OK, so I did a brief search to find out who the plaintiffs were in this case and I found the following two groups: The Friends of Yosemite Valley (FOYV), Mariposans for the Environment and Responsible Government (MERG) Now, I am definitely an environmentally friendly person and I usually support most conservation efforts (yes, I am a liberal.) However, do any of you have more direct knowledge of the process and motivations of the parties involved. i.e. should I be pissed off at FOYV and MERG for being just another well intentioned by nonetheless stupid bunch of left wing, granola eating, idiots? Any additional info that folks have about this would be great. (Yes, I signed the petition and I forwarded it on to others.) Thanks for posting this Brady.

Yes, thank you very much for posting this, Brady. I sent the pre-written letter and posted the link on my Facebook update as well. Yikes, I couldn't imagine climbers not being able to climb at those areas for several years! --Marc

We want to thank the nearly 1500 climbers who supported Yosemite climbing by responding to the first public comment period of the Merced River planning process. For more information on Yosemite and the planning process please visit accessfund.org/yosemite.
