Description

This little crag close to the cliff is home to the popular Classic Crack (5.8+). This is the most often climbed route and quite often there will be a group of people toproping it. There are some other not-too-bad routes to try while waiting out Classic Crack. The area gets some sun but is generally not too hot during the summer.

Getting There

You can either walk here from 8-mile campground (down the trail that starts at the far end of the campground and goes along parallel to the creek) or by parking on the pullout on the creekside of the road and scrambling downhill to the base of the crag. The trail goes down to the left. The parking pullout is basically the first major pullout on your left past 8-mile campground as you head further into the canyon. If you get to Bridge Creek, you've gone too far.

Classic Crack is the hand crack on the right. The more left-leaning crack on the left is Left Crack (5.8).

The obvious crack going straight (ok, a little bit left) up the middle of the crag. You can jam it, you can layback it, you can even climb it in the rain (makes the grade a little harder...). If you go on a nice weekend, there may already be some people with a rope on it so you won't even need to worry about finding it....[more]   Browse More Classics in WA

According to the Falcon Guide, "8-Mile Rock" is further down the trail, and this area was referred to as "Classic Crack Area". Whatever the case is, this is a fun, albeit small, area that is great for a lazy day of climbing or for honing handcrack skills.
