Finding partners in Japan

Hello,

I am planning a trip to Japan in April, 2018. While the primary purpose of the trip will be non-climbing related, I can set aside a week's worth of time to climb. Does anyone have any experience trying to find English-speaking partners in Japan? If so, have any advice for me?

Looking to climb trad and at spring alpine/mountaineering objectives.

Even if you have negative experiences, please share. If it seems highly unlikely that I will find partners, I will just save my vacation for a later time (or beg a partner to join).

Thanks,
Alan

Hi Alan,

Last year I was looking into trying to climb in Japan. I didn't have any luck finding anyone on MP, but if you're persistent and lucky, it may work.

There are some meetup groups, which I think could yield a higher success rate. eg meetup.com/Tokyo-Bouldering… if you're going to be in/around Tokyo. I think that group is more oriented toward sport climbing and bouldering, but there may be members who are interested in mountaineering/trad stuff. Anyway, it could be a good place to start.

good luck,
ScoJo
