Description Suggest change

Fish Canyon Narrows is a canyon just past the abandoned Cienega Campground north east of Castaic Lake, CA.

The rock on the hike in is a conglomerate of varying quality which transitions to polished hard choss.

The area requires a sizable hike so it doesn't get climbed often.

Getting There Suggest change

Take the 5 freeway north past Castaic and exit Templin Highway turning right and heading east.

Follow the road until it ends at a barricade. The area is popular with hikers and many cars are here.

Follow the dirt road over the bridge heading south until you come to a split in the road. Turn left at this split and head up the canyon. Going straight takes you to private property and the water control for Castaic Lake.

Follow the dirt road through a conglomerate rock narrows. This area has many bouldering opportunities. Past the narrows continue until you come upon an abandoned campground last open in the 70's (Cienega CG).

Just past the CG is a small canyon on your left. Follow the obvious trail until you reach the Fish Canyon Narrows Proper. You are here.

Poison oak is everywhere careful hiking is required to avoid it.
