Just add a "base layer". Just input a base condition that La sportiva is usually 2 sizes smaller than 5.10

I would add some kind of warning that this data is suspect and anecdotal, but at least it's something better than a blind purchase.

La Sportiva being 2 sizes smaller is definitely a misnomer. Go try on a sz9 Verdon and sz7 Futura...I'm not going to wait up for when you're done. Hell there are LOTS of things commonly said about climbing shoes that are wrong, like TC pros are narrow.

And yeah until you try on a shoe everything in anecdotal.

Thanks for the feedback!

I've added a couple more features, Brand Pages, and individual shoe pages are all linked up throughout the site. So you should see some more relevant info for each shoe and for each brand.

Up next is probably some very minor fixes and then possibly exposing some more stats to users. Let me know if there's anything else you guys wanna see!

Happy New Year!

Thought I would give you guys an update and bump this thread up a little bit.

First off the site is doing great, if you havent logged in in a while, log back in! There are almost 2000 user items. I think the results are pretty accurate at this point. But we need more data. Tell your friends about SizeSquirrel! Did you know that we have also have mountaineering boots and approach shoes on the site?

Secondly, I just completed a pretty big update. It includes:

- Added Nepal Evos, which were shamefully missing from the site. My apologies.
- Fixed a bunch of minor bugs, including missing/wrong pictures for some shoes, and shoes that come in different gender's not displaying correctly, and some issues with filtering on the profile and browse pages.
- I've also added more data all around the site. On the homepage you'll see the most popular shoes on the site, and whenever you see a shoe you should see the average rating users have given that shoe, as well as fit information, how many profiles have it, etc etc. You'll also see shoe comments in more places throughout the site.
- Also, lots of small style changes, I think the site looks better everyday!

Check it out!

Thanks Eddie for putting this all together. It's amazing what crowdsourcing data like this can do. It's a great tool for those times when you can't find the shoe you want at the brick and mortar shop, Also people unfortunate enough to live in a town without a gear shop.

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to bump this again and let everyone know that I just published a pretty large update to the site.

I've added the Trango Extremes, which some users requested. As well as a lot of design changes. I think the site looks much better. Check out the new icons on the shoe information blocks!

Very cool! Created a profile and adding shoes.

Hi again everyone.

Just another update, I've added a sales page with shoes from Amazon that are currently on sale. Amazon is a little weird with what pricing information it has available to developers, but I'm looking to add other retailers in the future. You can check it out here:

SizeSquirrel - Shoes On Sale

I also added a forgot username feature, in case you forgot your username.

I a couple more features coming up next, adding even more shoes, and we're gonna have a small ad in the next issue of climbing!

Let me know if you have any feedback, if you havent logged in in a while, check it out!

I've also added the Evolv Bandit, Evolv Bandit SC, and Scarpa Instinct VSR to the site.

Does it still compare to the US/UK sizes if you select a EU size?

Yes, the site is smart enough to compare across sizing standards.

There are those people who have mixed sized feet (myself included) and things like Morton's toe. My feet are Egyptian, for example. The more information about the person's foot the better. In fact, street sizing tells us next to nothing about how the shoes will fit our feet. One major reason we need a site like this in the first place :-D
I think the toebox shape is important info, but what about people whose toebox doesn't quite fit those shapes? My dad has morton's toe (greek) and my mom has egyptian toes and so I have something in between where my big toe and 2nd toe are equal length and then the rest of my toes are egyptian.

Good point. And yes, I think this would definitely be valuable info to have on the website as toe shape plays a big part in shoe fit. Perhaps taking all the shapes you can find images of and using those. I think Having an image is very important, though, as many won't know the shape of their foot by name.

Hi Nate,

Thanks for the great feedback. Great suggestions, and thanks for the images about shoe shape. Here are my thoughts:

I don't have any plans to add cm/mm sizing or width for people's profiles. I think asking people to measure their foot is a bit much, and for this measurement to be truly better/more accurate than sizing, you'd have to account for accuracy of measurement, etc. And like you mention length doesn't tell the whole story anyway.

I also don't have plans for split sizing. This is pretty complicated and would throw a serious wrench in the matching algorithms. Unfortunately, the reality is that a very small percentage of climbers use split sizing, and getting split sized shoes is also a bit of a hassle. As the site grows, and this small percentage is a larger number of people I might consider it.

Foot shape, based on the 5 categories provided in your picture would be a cool feature, I can definitely implement that in the near future.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
