I wouldn't worry much about the ads. If it really bothers people then they can use an ad blocker. Who knows, maybe you could get some revenue from the ads to pay for the hosting costs.

Considering you're doing this as a labor of love, I think it's entirely reasonable to put a few ads up to pay for it. I'm more than happy to have to see some ads in order to be able to use this tool for free

So do you get referrals for clicks on the Amazon ads? Or do you get them if I click on an ad through sizesquirrel and then purchase the shoes? I clicked on both suggestions just in case that helps haha

Haha, thanks Luke. Unfortunately it's for purchases.

Great idea. Added a handful of shoes. Not sure if this has been said but I would include EU sizes for more accuracy

EU sizes are included, they're just at the bottom of the size select.

If I'm desperate and have no way of trying a pair on, I check this bookmark it's been accurate most of the time but as always YMMV.

Also Skwama is missing and Scarpa Drago has no photo should be this

Haven't seen a captcha on registration or login page, I would strongly recommend adding one.

Thanks for the site Eddie might come in handy next time I'm in the market for a pair.

Another update. I added a handful of missing shoes, but also some new features:

Browse Page
A lot of you were asking to see all matches available. You can now see that at:
sizesquirrel.com/browse/

Sorting/Filtering
You can now sort and filter shoes on the browse page, on your profile, on other peoples profiles...

Better display of unsure/even split matches.
Sometimes the match percentages are split evenly.. such is life. Hopefully this is more clear now.

Just letting everybody know, I pushed a pretty big update today.

Mountaineering Boots
Most popular Mountaineering boots have been added to SizeSquirrel. As well as several missing rock shoes and some approach shoes as well. We now have over 500 different shoes on SizeSquirrel.

The entire concept only works if people register and put in their shoes and the fit. Just because you want to benefit from other people's time/effort without putting any in yourself, doesn't mean he should encourage the behavior.

Eddie, especially with the addition of mountaineering boots, I am definitely going to register and add my (limited) collection. Good stuff!

Hi everyone, just wanted to make a quick update.

Yep, the site is still around and still slowly growing, I'm still adding new features...

So Ill Shoes
I've seen a couple of these out in the wild from kickstarter backers. I've added all SoIll Shoes to SizeSquirrel.

Shoe Pages
I've added pages for all the individual shoes. These are linked from several places throughout the site. But they basically aggregate all the comments for a particular shoe. For example: sizesquirrel.com/shoe/five-…

Newsletters
Have you been getting our newletters? I realize some users signed up with their FB email which they never check. You can sign up for our newsletter here: eepurl.com/bZiv-5 I'm sending about 1 email per month with news and updates, and some stats which I like to think are interesting (Which shoes are the most popular?). Your information is never shared and unsubscribe requests are taken seriously.

Registered, and added my two cents..Er pairs.
I'll check back periodically to see when you add dead bird approach shoes.

Really like the process. Will get wife signed up, as she needs some 2nd pair. If can find right shoes, will use Amazon link to buy.

Thanks man! I appreciate the support. Keep an eye on this thread, I will update it when I add new features and things...

What are "dead bird approach shoes"?

EDIT:
I got it as soon as I posted this. Dead Bird = arcteryx

Random question, if my wife had a pair of women's shoes, and wants to size to a men's for wider and stiffer shoe, will the EU sizing method help with the translation across the great sexist shoe divide of 2016?

No it won't help. The site is smart enough to take this into account. So it doesnt matter which sizing format you input, it knows the equivalent of USW, USM, EU when it calculates matches. If you're looking at say going from a Womens Solution's to a Men's Solution's. Those are completely different shoes as far as the site is concerned so it might be hard finding matches....

Hey Jason,
I've added Arcteryx approach shoes! Check them out on the site.

I can think of some benefits of adding street shoes. Yes they differ, but some shoes fit feet better than others. If someone else wears a size 10.5EE Nike shoe, than that may give me further insight as to what brand of climbing shoe might fit my foot better.

A ton more work to add them, not sure the benefits outweigh the costs (your time), but i'd personally love to see them added.

Glad to see the Arc'teryx shoes added.

Added another pair, those with large chose collections...please use this site. Free, easy and helpful to many in this digital shopping age. Buying a pair of shoes off MP tonight, can only hope they fit. Need all your sizes.

This app has the basic problem for most crowd-sourced databases: There isn't anything interesting on there until a whole bunch of people commit to adding stuff without seeing any benefit themselves. Just a couple of ideas:

1) Game-ify - Stupid, but often effective. MP uses the same concept with "points" for adding content. It worked with a dumbie like me. Maybe add "shoe points" for people adding lots of pairs with a ranking page showing who is "winning". Silly, but there is probably trickier solution lurking out there.

2) Just add a "base layer". Just input a base condition that La sportiva is usually 2 sizes smaller than 5.10, evolv fits wider feet, etc. That way, the user will always have results coming back. Without results, the impulse to use the application is small. I would add some kind of warning that this data is suspect and anecdotal, but at least it's something better than a blind purchase.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
