Help with online application to drive into Mexico

I have been trying to figure out the online process to get my car permit to drive into Mexico. I do not want to wait in line at the border. Has anyone been able to do it? I have been able to get on the banjercito website but get stuck at Importer Identification stage. I can not figure out what the "Pre-authorization Folio INM." I have completed the FMM form but the system will not take anything I put into this line. Has anyone been able to figure this out and get beyond this screen?

I did it a couple months ago. They shut the servers down at night if you happen to be trying it late at night. Also sometimes these government websites don't work good unless you are using internet explorer.

Did you go to the seperate page and get your inm number? I think there is a link to it when you first start the form.

I can try in the am. The link given in the website sends you to the INM website which is a mess. I have seen the FMM form but can not even figure out what the INM is or where it is located.

I had this same issue and somehow I ran across the right information. All you have to do is fill out this form inm.gob.mx/sae/publico/pre-… and it will issue you your INM pre-authorization number. Be warned the page is in Spanish but I ran everything through a simple translator.

I too have been having trouble with this site.
I got the INM number OK but had trouble in a few places.
When stumped I SAVED and EXITed but the screen showing me the folio # and document number to use to reenter the site only lasted 2 seconds, not enough to record it. Any idea how to retrieve these numbers?

I'll probably reenter everything but others may benefit in the answer...

Not sure if related, but it says to turn off your pop-up blocker before filling out the form.

I found what the "document number" is: it's your passport number.

I went to the website inm.gob.mx/sae/publico/pre-aut... and was doing ok but the box where it wanted "Nombre(s)" after the name stumped me. Anyone got any answers for this one?

"Nombre" is for your first name, then you can put your last name under "primer apellido".

In Mexico, a person uses two last names, "primer apellido" for their father's last name and "segundo apellido" for their mother's last name (typically only used for formal documents like this one).

So you can ignore the "segundo apellido" box.

Just in case anyone else has trouble with this...... The number under the barcode at the bottom of the FMM is the "Pre-authorization Folio INM" number you need.

AS SHASTA WROTE above Go onto this website she described above, fill out your PRE-AUTHORIZATION form first. It will give you the INM FOLIO NUMBER  you will need when you go onto Banjercito website to fill out your form for Temporary vehicle permit. You can also have page translated to english(look and click on top- right side of page).

The tourist card (FMM) application is now available in English online through the INM's website! ... The FMM is a document issued by Mexico's INM (Instituto Nacional de Migración aka INM). You can fill and print this form 7 days before you head out to border.

Help, please: I am filling out the pre-authorization for FMM so I can get a pre authorization number to apply for my Temporary Vehicle Permit. I can't apply for FMM until 7 days prior to travel, right? How can I fill out my TIP when I can't get a temporary authorization number early enough?
