+1 - BB contributed a fair amount of good info over the years. His ability to dig up old DAV info was second to none.

And for the record, I 100% agreed with him that there are inward flaring cracks in the PNW where ONLY a cam that could take opening up inside would would work. I recall one at Index where I always was glad I had a .75 C4...

I saw him on BPL yesterday so he's fine and offering up good info there. Taking a break from the armchair knowledge comments isn't bad once in a while. I do...

I am genuinely glad to hear that.

His posts here were appreciated by many.

But he had a tendency to engage in personal feuds and at the end escalated these to near libelous levels.

He didn't leave MP, he got deactivated because of this behavior.

Regardless, I kind of hope some climbing hawtie is keeping him too busy to continue being a know it all on MP.

He seems really desperate to be right every time someone disagrees with him. He also has the inability to see circumstances outside of himself. I assume there is some aspergers going on. Can't say I miss him, he posts information available to anyone who wants to look.

This was something that was very apparent about Bearbreeder. Along with his bastardized spelling of English.

I've known him as a poster since the salad days of rc.com, a place he made a whole lot worse with constant deprecation and negativity.

But then he mellowed. He didn't disagree with everything, he occasionally admitted to weaknesses, and he started sharing a vast, I'd say almost incomparable, pool of knowledge built on first-hand experience but especially on a superb command of the literature. I've been in awe of his indexing system for articles on climbing gear and technique for several years now, and keep resolving, without any follow-through, to put my mish-mash of links into some kind of useful shape.

Even mellowed, he wasn't always easy to deal with, and it was a little hard to endure his self-referential Asian racism, seasoned with a bit of sexism as well. The outbursts that got him banned don't seem to me to be characteristic of anything earlier. I think there is, will, or could be a better bearbreeder out there, waiting to break free; the mellowing mentioned already suggests this.

I for one only wish him well. We all have our imperfections, and we live at a time when people are publicly excoriated for any deviation from the orthodoxy of the moment. That said, there are very few people on this site whose contributions have been as substantial, insightful, and useful as his were when he was on his game, and I'm going to miss the information, the references, and the alternate points of view that I hadn't thought of until he brought them up.

I imagine he'll be back eventually. Until then, smooth sailing bb.

So, that is two people who combined have a centuries worth of climbing experience streaching back to 1957, in Rgolds case, that found the Bear to be one of the most thourogh well informed posters.
He has rejected us. I think he found that his fertile seeds were falling on cement.

I knew you would take it that way, and expected no less a response!
I should have excluded the fertile and wonderful folks who honestly come looking for advice and take criticism as graciously as the grand dame of the newly addicted.
I was in no way disparaging your conscience & inquisitive self.
I find you and your drive to climb inspirational!
Keep at it

PS
( do not over exert when gym climbing, I had to add that, as well as protect you shoulders and ankles)
If I might be so bold as to ask, What size shoes do you wear ?
Do you need a pair of shoes? Have you ever tried a very stiff board lasted shoe?
That proved better support for your feet & for your toes,
You may find that they allow you to get on the point or tip of the big toe area ~dime edge dancing ~{B^>

He posted in the Squamish Climbing Facebook page in the last 24 hours.

He was looking for a climbing partner.

I reckon he is OK.

No, I'm as happily married to the same girl for 20 years as a father of to teenagers can be.

I am trying to give you a hint without coming out and saying;

Back in the day we learned to down climb in mountain boots (or something like them.)

Very stiff shoes will teach you economize your foot and keep your wiggly-piggies happy.

The modern slip-lasted shoes smidge a mix of edging & smearing. ( not speaking about the down

turned foot vices.) smedging is a great technique, but when you learn to 'front point' on nubbins,

You gain an understanding for the need for older tootsies to have support. Also without that

background (I've noticed that paddling) that today's newer climbers do in slippers,
leads to running through the rubber.

They are a product of planned obsolescence,
and another example of the successful monitazation of climbing.

All that to point out that I have many pairs of smaller shoes all in good condition kept stuffed to preserve their shape. 0ne or two pairs of size 38s & 38.5 Scarpa shoes that were barley used
before I switched to the slipper style shoe. A switch that was fine with the background I discribed.

For why ? This post?

Just because some self-loathing Canadian with poor grammar is desperate to be right doesn't mean I'm obligated to his demands. This is germane to my post on the last page; BB speaks in absolutes and then throws temper tantrums when he's contradicted.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
