***CAMS RETURNED*** 2 Cams taken from fixed rope line in Eldo

Yesterday my brother and I were doing Rewritten in Eldo canyon and we got caught in a thunderstorm and total downpour. So we set up a 3 point trad anchor (2 cans and 1 nut) so we could rapel and come back today to retrieve everything. Sadly, when we got there we found out from a trail runner who was passing by, named Tony, that someone thought it was free booty and he took the 2 cans, leaving just the 1 nut for us to jug up on and retrieve our rope.

I know this wasn't an intentionally dangerous move. Nevertheless, it became an extremely hazardous situation. We know that the person who took the cams is a CU Boulder student. We aren't mad. We would simply like to get those 2 cams back as we are not made of money bags.

We thought we got the correct number from Tony, but apparently we didn't.
Call or text. We will be around Boulder for the next 2 days.

Good luck on getting it back, hope you do

I'd give it 4-10 hours for booty to be removed on Eldo classics

But to remove gear from a tied in fixed line? Thats a questionable move in my opinion.

In my experience, the sort of person who takes the 2 cams and leaves the fixed line hanging on a single stopper is not the sort of person who gives the cams back.

Good luck with that though.

It was cleared up. The cams were returned. It was unintentional and no harm was done.

Good to hear, but care to elaborate on what was cleared up? Seems inadvisable if they rapped of a single nut and dangerous if they left the line for somebody to jug expecting a three piece anchor. If they didn't rap the line, were they able to reach it while rapping another line? Topped out and walked off?

Where exactly did you rap from? There's a giant eyebolt just a quick traverse from the first pitch. And why did you leave the rope? it seems you would spend a lot more energy jugging rather than climbing the route.

Huh? The intentional removal of the cams was unintentional?

Just a guess, they rapped a single line to get the full Rope length and get off as quick as possible.

This is incredibly lame and I would like to hear the rationale behind this decision.

Maybe the leader of the "booty" team incorporated some or all of the bail anchor into a belay anchor? Then there was some miscommunication with the second as far as what gear was whose, and pieces were taken by mistake. That's the only "accidental" scenario I can think of that makes sense.

Thanks chuck, I could not wrap my head around that one. If that was the case I take back my previous comment. I guess I ought to not drink and post.

Don't need to do that, just this:

don't know why I'm so curious about this incident. The verbage used in the post? the CU student? this Tony guy who knew what happened?

how was someone supposed to text or call you without leaving a number? back edit?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
