ladder

Another ladder

Never been to Ouray in the summer, went for a visit recently and was surprised to see three ladders in the river near the School Room climbing area. It appears these are some of the ladders used to get around the bottom of the canyon. But were apparently left, and the spring runoff deposited them where you see them in the photos. I would assume that the people in charge of the ice park would show better stewardship with respect to their resource, where they make their income, guess thats wishful thinking.

What I would do is take a picture and ask someone else to pick them up.

The rope going through the bolt bothers me alot more than some random ladders.

the 3rd picture in the set that you forgot to post is the ladders in your rig headed for the dumpster right?

That sir is a brilliant plan.

But when you ask them to pick it up you wouldn't actually "ask" right? You'd post it on the internet so you wouldn't have to make any of that eye contact they used to do in the '80's?

They are by the Verminator climbing area. Hoped people would take care of the environment, especially those making their money off it. I don't know anybody that works there, I'm only a lowly Frontranger. They are in the river.

I know this is probly late notice, but 2 years ago I was leading out, had a little mini-epic, and took a nice fall. Unfortunately My crevasse ladder snapped off my harness along with my fixed line at a bolt anchor. I know, gumby mistake. I ended up with a c6.664 non-displaced free-range organic fracture, bruised left testicle, supernumerary nipple, and irritable bowel syndrome.

I'm okay now, but if someone finds my ladder and could return it, I would be willing to offer a six pack, or a cherry flavored snow cone. Thanks!

You can keep the fixed line, I hate those fucking things anyway.

Do you see the color of the stone etc around the area? That's all from the mining operations up stream that you neglected to acknowledge in your bitching about an aluminum ladder or two and some old rope and a few bolts.

Look at this from an objective stand point, due to weird and warm temps certain areas became dangerous to be around due higher than normal temps and huge ice fall and collapse, and also rising water levels. Do you want to stick your neck out to get a ladder that will only end up there next year? You are probably one of two or three people that will go down into the Uncompahgre during the summer months. But be sure to give those Ice Farmers a solid hi-five when you return in the winter and scratch your way across those same ladders!

Now can we start a thread about all of that atrocious steel they call a via ferrata over in Telluride, it honestly does nothing for at least 6 months out of the year....

Ice climbers are dirtbags, didn't you know that?

So why did they get ten other ladders out? Ever heard of filters you cubicle gapers?
ElGaper, hope your there so I can solo around your sorry ass.
People use to care about the environment, not during these selfish times.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
