So any Chicagoan going to this?
It'll be my first time attending - how many people showed up last year?
Since there's a potluck figured I see how much food to bring. Haha

Matt from ORD is prob going again. He started this FB page, possible for a ride share? facebook.com/events/1574694…

There was over 100 people last year, something like 140 or something at the party Sat night, but my memory is shit, so i could be WAY off...

Just bring some bacon, and cook it all day long for everyone!

Just signed up for the Classic and a Saturday Clinic! Super stoked to meet some more people in the community, and learn more skills and techniques to further myself as a climber! Now what to cook for the potluck...

I just listened to the latest Enormocast interview and Chris Kalous said he just might be coming and hanging out for the 2016 DL Cragg'n Classic.

Kewl...

Chris said it wasn't for sure and that to listen in for updates!

Jon, where did you hear Angie was coming and doing a clinic? I don't see her mentioned on the Facebook or registration page.

If Jon says it's happening it's happening! Sign up for the WCA Facebook page and watch the CC website for announcements and updates...

Yep, Angie is most definitely coming for a clinic, slideshow and a selfie with Jon. It was odd, she actually specifically requested that last bit.

Last I heard from Chris was that he wanted to interview Pete C.

That would be an amazing Enormocast, although, I think it would be better done from the mobile studio, not the Saturday night festivities.

Signed my Wife and I up over the weekend!

I will be doing the single pitch self rescue corse and I believe my wife is going to be doing the women's into to trad climbing! We are both very exicted!

Has anyone taken the women's into to trad climbing clinic at one of the other AAC events or does anyone know what all it will cover?

My wife signed up for it and is excited because she hasn't done any lead / trad climbing as of now and is earger to learn. My worry is that she doesn't know enough to keep up with the class since she hasnt lead any routes indoors.

I feel like this might only be true if the clinic required a minimum skill level for the clinic, but I do not see that anywhere on any of the sites. Anyone able to shed some light on my fears? I don't want to mention it to my wife / try to teach her things myself (that I am not 100% confident on, since I have only lead indoors and have only climbed trad outside twice) and get her worried without reason.

Any advice is great!

Anybody heading up early, like on Thursday,,keep in touch. I hope to be there at Green Valley to see what can be done to help out Donna in getting things set up and organized for a smooth running event Friday through Sunday. Looks to be a bigger event for sure than in past. Anybody with ideas or going up early,, comment here or message sometime to share ideas.

Bump....check the post about the Altay Classic' trad comp. I'm asking , as I think it is part of the Craggin Classic, with just a name given to the trad climb comp. segment of the CC events. I just want to clarify and hope others see both notices and updates with just over 3 weeks until the big weekend.

You are correct Woodchuck.

Anyone bought a pass and isn't using it? (Are they even transferrable?) I apparently failed to click the check out button a couple weeks ago (can't find a confirmation and didn't get charged) and now it is sold out. Was really hoping to participate...

cheers

From the WCA FAcebook page. I am sure more details will come later on this week.

  • **PLEASE READ***
Over the past week the WCA has been working with the American Alpine Club to solve the unexpected issue of overcrowding at the upcoming Craggin' Classic. When the WCA and the AAC set out to combine our events neither of us thought that there was a capacity limit and we promoted the event as such. As it turns out we were incorrect and the AAC hit their limit last week.

As a result, anyone who signed up for the comp this past weekend or signs up this week will not be able to access the camping, slideshows or any of the events happening at Green Valley. This was not in any of our plans and we are extremely disappointed to be delivering this news.

With that said, we are still going to put on an amazing comp with insane prizes and some of the most gracious sponsors we've ever worked with. Team, Star Chaser and Individual winners are going to walk away with some incredible prizes and the Altay Classic will be the first Devil's Lake comp of its kind, with many more to come.

Our biggest logistical change is that registration/check in and awards will now be held on the lawn in front of the North Shore Boulders, instead of at Green Valley. We'll provide more exact directions later this week. Additionally, we've secured free camping for every competitor that was planning on camping this weekend. If you'd like to reserve spaces please email us at wiscoclimber@gmail.com for more info

You can still sign up for either comp on the AAC Craggin' Classic page but we'll also be running day of registration at the North Shore on the morning of the comp.

We can't apologize enough for this but we want you to know that we're already working on the 2017 Midwest Climber's Festival and you can be sure that this won't happen again. We can't wait to see everyone this Saturday!!!!!

Deleted my previous post with questions, so there would be no confusion to the events as Jon just clarified above. But I gotta admit after all these years I have no idea what or where the North Shore Boulders is located. I have no bouldering guide and don't participate. I've heard of Brooklyn Boulders and that's about it.

You don't need a bouldering guide - you've got MP!!1!!

(from the North Shore page) Drive past the North Shore ranger station, continue directly ahead until you cross the railroad tracks then turn right. Follow this road to the third parking area (on top of a small hill) and park. From the middle of the lot walk across the road to the east into the woods (on a faint trail) for about 50 feet. One will walk right into Jameson Arete and Emily's Naptime. Happy Cranking.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
