Getting from SFO to Mammoth

Planning on landing at SFO Sept 21, looking for a ride to Mammoth, need to be there by 6P.
Glad to pay for the gas and chow if you're going that way. (No smokers please.)

What if the ride was offered by a "smoker"? You'd rather hitchhike?

Well Mr. Whineturd, thanks for asking. While trapped in a can inhaling the carcinogenic poisons of other travelers in said can may be appealing -even irresistible- to some, my allergies to such poisons would indeed inspire to me to consider other options. Like fly to Reno. (Thank you Mr. Wilder.) Or other, even more creative possibilities. Now hitchhiking does sound like a fine choice, but for the limit of time I have accepted to be imposed upon me.
Seems fair to inquire of you sir... Would you be wiling to drive the 6 + / - hours from SFO to Mammoth and not smoke, out of respect for a passenger(s), hitchhiking or not?

There are public transportation options for at least part of the way described here for Yosemite to Mammoth and here for Reno to Mammoth.

Some of the other passengers might smell of cigarettes. He's better off walking.

Was just in mammoth and seen a southwest plane fly right over the top near lake george as if it was landing at Mammoth Airport. Maybe you can fly directly there?

The Reno to Mammoth bus doesn't run on Wednesdays. I would start looking into rental cars, you may have luck doing a one way rental with Enterprise, I have done it for under $100 before from Southern California.

I'm in backwoods-ass North Caccalackie where tobacco is still considered the "State Cigarette" and hemp is grown only in "the devil's garden".

Alaska Airlines flies to Mammoth Lakes airport all year round from the LA area. From the east coast, a RT ticket is probably about $700, routed thru LAX.

Or the suggestion about Reno airport is a good one...

I appreciate everyone's feedback. That Southwest plane migjht have made a wrong turn, their route map shows they don't have scheduled service to Mammoth. The best idea so far is fly to Reno. It's true the bus doesn't run Wed, so I may change travel days. And I may hitchhike from Reno. It's all good.

FYI, turned out flying to Reno and getting a one-way from Enterprise was the answer.
Have to drop the car off Mammoth Lakes Airport, only Enterprise and Hertz have office there.
The price was $84 one way, and the guy dealing cars at RNO did not have the mid-size I requested so asked me to drive an Expedition that needed to get to MMH. So I slept in the truck that the first nite instead of pitching the tent.

Oh, fun fact: The bus that doesn't run Reno to Mammoth on Wed, but 4 other days drops you off at McD's... I stopped at McD's on my last morning in town for gruel only to have a County Officer tell me "McD's closed down after Labor Day, didn't even tell their employees".
