Scramble through the mnt

Trying to figure out if there's a formal name to what we did a few years ago on a trip to Josh. We had some tea and went on a night hike and were up in hidden valley area, there was a silhouette of a woman on this formation and we hiked over there from this precipice, then started exploring, down climbed this chimney, hopped across some giant boulders, descended a slab into a tunnel then found another tunnel leading out of the large tunnel, then out onto some slabs and then popped out on the paved trail... it was pretty epic and we didn't really know where we were going or getting into but kept finding ways to move forward and not backtrack. Anyone know where or what the hell this hike was?

... you scrambled around in Real Hidden Valley a few years ago. That's what you did and where you did it. What more do you want?

haha thanks looking for specifics... at some point someone mentioned to me it was a known scramble that was difficult to find... how about what's the name of the formation with the silhouetted woman for starters? Do you know the route im talking about Nate or just trying to be an ass?

I'm sure someone knows exactly what im talkin about.

Is it the chasm of doom? Or something like that? Had some locals take me through something that sounds just like what you've described in Real Hidden Valley.

Real Hidden Valley

So no one knows what i'm talking about? It had a very distinct tunnel a the end, after jumping across the tops of some giant boulders (30ft) you were stuck onstop of a large cliff you wouldn't readily down climb, you had to descend into a tunnel prob 10ft diameter and then another smaller (crawling size) one off of that, which took you to the top of a small slab and then down to a trail.

No one knows the tunnel or the silhouette of the woman I speak of? You could see the silhouette from this precipice with huge huecos on top and a sort of valley below. Silhousette was on the left and another formation rose above us to the right and in between was a bit of a valley. Kinda surprised folks aren;t like oh ya that's XYZ... I'll never forget it... it was super unique. I'm kinda thinking maybe it wasnt Real Hidden Valley... but I recall the path we landed on was paved.

The tea was great! Though it played less of a role than you would think for the Captain...

I know I sound like 'that guy'... And there's lots of boulders piled up that make 'a tunnel/cave' in the park but this was very different. I spoke with someone once that told me they knew exactly what I was talkin about and it was a very difficult hike to find but once you did it was one of those things you'd be hard pressed to forget.

Is the Hidden Valley Trail paved?

From what I've seen of the chasm, its something totally different. Our trip was on top of a formation. The tunnel was only a small part of it and was relatively short. We figured we'd have to turn around and backtrack off the cliff but then someone found the cave and decided to go into it... and then found this tinny hole on the side we could escape from and on top of another slab that lead to the path.

Pretty sure I sound like a mental patient at this point... I guess no one on here has any clue what I'm talking about... shame. Might try to dig up the trip photos and see if I have any from that night.

From what I remember there is a chill bombay chimney in the Chasm as well. Or is that some variation?

If I ever make it back def! We spent five days in the park and that hike as well as a night ascent of the gargole were some of my fav moments even though I was climbing hard back then and neither were that difficult, well physically at least!

For the life of me I cant seem to find a single decent trail map of Real Hidden Valley and I consider myself a pretty astute internet sleuth!

There is a great night time romp across the road from Jumbo as well. I forget the exact location but you leave the campground and go back 2-3 domes, to find the entrance look for a tall and narrow opening, this leads into a long corridor which goes into the dome. There are several areas where you come upon jumbles that need to be navigated. The exits has two options, the first is to simply keep walking and find your way out the second involves sliding feet first through a jumble of small boulders which leads you into a small chamber, from here you slide on your belly through a slowly narrowing(height wise)passage. The last few feet required me to exhale in order to slide further. Makes me feel claustrophobic just thinking about it. That whole area near Jumbo has awesome scrambling with awesome summits!

Yep - it was in Real Hidden Valley, and its called Chasm of Doom. You must do it at midnight with zero moonlight and no headlamp. If you can hold up your hand in front of your face and see said hand, you are doing it wrong. :) This has to be the most non-climbing fun I've ever had at JT.

Actually, I think I've established that it WASNT chasm of doom! It was something else...
