Hey All, me and some friends are heading down to Chattanooga this fall. Was wondering if anyone knew of any good cheap or even better free camping spots near by. Preferably one where sleeping in a van is convenient on the site. I have looked into raccoon mountain and the west K.O.A. Any thoughts and suggestions are much appreciated.

Free camping at T-wall parking lot is the best free camping in town beware of sketchy tweekers and rednecks though. There is good camping just south of Chatty at pigeon mt. for climbing at rocktown and lost wall, however, you are required to purchase a land use permit. Another option may be Starr Mountain east of Chattanooga it has great free camping, but is a little out of the way. If you are willing to pay a little the crashpad is conveniently located and has showers, along with a host of pay campgrounds in and around town including a great pay campground at foster falls; if you are willing to hike in a bit free camping can be found here as well. Good luck, having lived in Atlanta I would make the weekend pilgrimage regularly, and always had good luck finding great camping in and near Chattanooga along with fantastic climbing.
