What about when you're climbing in the Vegas summer heat?

Anything that has a lot of salt. And water.

Watermelon sprinkled with salt!

When I was I kid, when we hit the ridiculously hot temps, hundred teens and up, my cravings led me to discover hot, salty, French fries dipped in soft serve vanilla ice cream from the Dairy Queen down the street.

Water, lightly sweetened, slightly salted, and some lemon or lime. (I predate sports drinks) Half thawed frozen fruit, if you have something watertight. Pickles can be good. Anything slurpy, not too sweet, and a bit salty.

But yeah, lots of water, including some to pour on your head and neck. Longish hair in a braid is great to soak down when you have to be out in it.

It gets hot here, but not so bad, and I don't miss it the slightest bit!

Apples and jerky, I like it!

Jicama stands up better than apples when pre-cut. Lots of water content, pretty filling, and doesn't brown like apples. Sprinkle with some salt and lime for flavor and electrolytes.

Pickles & heat stable meat of choice (I like salami or jerky). Fruit. Pack any water containers as full of crushed ice as I can before I add water.

I love the little baby food squeeze pouches to beat cramps (beware: baby food farts are real)

Apples can be salted to prevent browning:

Instead of crushed ice.... I freeze the bottle(1/2 or 3/4) works really well
