Wondering if anyone knows of any good camping near Rainier for climbers approaching from Paradise? Going next weekend and all the reservable sites are full. May grab a last minute site, but not holding my breath since I am not able to get to the mountain till saturday evening.

We will be driving from the Seattle area.

Can you make it up to paradise and start your climb Saturday night? When I did Rainier, I climbed by headlamp to moon rocks, then woke up and proceeded to Ingraham flats the next day. It was incredibly convenient to have a lazy day with only a couple of thousand verticle feet.

Actually a pretty good idea. Looks like it could be pretty hot later in the day on the snowfield.

Very common to find people sleeping in their car at the overflow paradise parking lot. Also see small tents pitched behind cars in the lot. Enter Park after hours to avoid entrance fees.

Thanks! Ended up finding some national forest land on the edge of the park that worked well!

It's pretty feasible to just get up early in Seattle, drive, start climbing. Weve don't that a couple times.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
