Does anyone know if the falcon closure at the Trapps is still in effect? If it is still up, when will the closure be taken down?
I totally respect their decision, just trying to figure out when I can climb where.

Adam,

Falcon closure was lifted about two weeks ago.

Mohonk preserve look down the right side of the page, under "preserve alerts"

What climbs are you lookin to get on?

Jim,
thanks for the info!
I'm going with a friend who is new to the Gunks so just all the nice easy multi-pitchers. Specifically have my eye on Madame G and Hawk but there appears to be other nice stuff here as well. anything you recommend in the 5.4-5.7 range?

Big Chimney to Miss Bailey

Fun, out of the sun for part of the way,
( @, 20 degrees cooler In the Chimney, the temp. change can cause condensation, on 'bieners etc. )

look at the wall behind you for good gear, in the chimney, and a there is 'Good' gear in the steep corner at the top.

I like the 'private' belay in the chimney, as the 1st pitch, then 1 pitch to the top.

I have not been on the Hawk in many years, (since Rock fall)
so I hope some one who has climbed it recently recently, speaks up,
.. .. .. .. Hawk ?.. ... ... the second can be in for a world of hurt, if they come off traversing.
Be careful Protecting the second.
(if I remember, there is a high piece that takes a step up, (to clean)
and then once cleaned the step back down is un-protected. It has sent a few folks swinging, YMMV
