CT Roll N Lock as guide mode belay device

I was looking at a video on the CT Roll N Lock and thought it looks like a great piece of kit and was going to use it as a back up to my Microcender in top rope solo setup.

Watching the video of it being used as a progress capture pulley got me thinking.. Could this be used in the place of say a DMM Pivot to belay in guide mode?

the mini-trax, which is also a progress capture pulley, is not supposed to be used in place of a plaquette belay device. If I were you, I would send climb tech an email asking about it. I'm sure this question would have come up during R&D so they probably have done testing on it.

There would be no way to lower or give slack to the second.

Yeah the issue of slack is a good point. I don't have any intention of doing it, I have a DMM pivot and it works great. Was just curious what peoples thoughts were on this. Thanks

I'm not familiar with that particular piece of gear, but sounds like it's a pulley. It's a very bad idea to use a pulley as a belay device.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
