Yep. Since that's mostly what I climb now....

BITD, before there was sport climbing and it was all just climbing, we simply referred to someone "putting in" or "putting up" a new route or "climbing a new route". If it was hard, they might be "working on" the route. But even the magazines of the day - Summit, Mountain, Off Belay - sometimes talked about "establishing" a route.

THE OTHER SUBJECT IS A MALE WHO IS IN SOME WACKY RELATIONSHIP IN WHICH THE OPERATIVE WORD IS "EQUALITY", WHICH IS PROBABLY JUST A CODE WORD FOR "I BEAT MY WIFE" WHICH I DON'T RESPECT OR ADMIRE SINCE I HAVE LEARNED RECENTLY THAT MEN ARE SUPPOSED TO CONTROL THEIR WIVES USING SOFT INSTEAD OF HARD POWER. THE TITLE OF THE MOVIE IS "WE CAME WE SAW WE JUDGED". WE WILL SEE HOW EACH OF THESE GUYS DOES BUT CLEARLY GUY NUMBER TWO STILL HAS SOME FIGURING OUT TO DO. ANYWAY, ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT VALLEY UPRISING IS MY SHINING STAR, MY ULTIMATE DREAM MOVIE, THE OLIVE BRANCH WHICH I EXTENDED MY WAY WHICH I CHERISH. BEFORE VALLEY UPRISING WOMEN WERE GETTING OUT OF HAND. THEY WERE SENDING SENDING SENDING AND MANY OF THEM HAD THE AUDACITY TO QUESTION MEN. A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF THIS IS LYNNE HILL DOING THE FFA OF THE NOSE AND THEN SANDBAGGING THE GRADE. THIS BADLY HURT MY AND ALL OTHER MANLY MENS FEELINGS AND THE PAIN JUST WILL NOT GO AWAY: I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO SIT DOWN ON ANY SURFACE WHICH IS NOT HEAVILY PADDED FOR YEARS. THE PAIN IS SIMPLY TOO MUCH TO BEAR. THE TEARS MY FELLOW MANLY MEN AND I CRIED OVER IT SOAKED OUR BEARDS THROUGH AND THROUGH, AND THEN RAN TOGETHER TO FORM A RIVER: YES, WE DID JUST LIKE LYNNE TOLD US TO, BUT ONLY AFTER WE COULD NOT SIT DOWN FOR A REALLY LONG TIME. WHAT CAN I SAY, WE ARE ALL THAT IS MAN, SO WE HELD OFF AS LONG AS WE COULD, WHICH WAS BASICALLY FOREVER. THANK GOD SHE WAS ALMOST ENTIRELY LEFT OUT OF THE MOVIE! NOW THE TEARS STREAM NO MORE AND THE RIVER OF OUR WOES RUNS DRY. THANKS TO VALLEY UPRISING ALL THE PUBLIC NOW KNOWS THAT CURRENT YOSEMITE AID CLIMBERS ARE THE MOST DEDICATED AND AWESOME AND INSPIRATIONAL CLIMBERS THE WORLD HAS EVER SEEN! WE CAN ALL STOP WORRYING THAT FREE CLIMBING WILL CATCH THE IMAGINATIONS OF NEW CLIMBERS, AND SO STOP WORRYING THAT ANY YOUNG BOYS WILL LOOK UP TO HOW LYNN APPROACHED CLIMBING! NEVER AGAIN WILL SOMETHING LIKE THAT WHOLE NOSE DEBACLE HAPPEN TO US PROUD GUARDIANS OF TRADITIONALISM! NIGHTMARE AVERTED! Besides the much enjoyed early history elements, I think the purpose of the film truly WAS to concentrate on the history and era of the Stonemasters'. I could have watched 2 more hours of their antics and fun days ! They were the Uprising, for the title. I'm just not sure most attendees at yearly ReelRock were aware that this was a stand alone film, and not a series of 4 or 5 short segments that actually usually total up to a longer film than 'Uprising did. I was told over a year before, that it would be released as a stand alone DVD, not be substituted as the ReelRock film of the season. Lots of sporty's had no idea of who they were, or even cared for that matter who they were. I wonder how sales were of DVD compared to something line King Lines a few years back.
