Were driving up Interstate 25 going to Fort Collins for vacation June 5th. Is there any good gear shops along that route? We looking for some mountaineering and climbing gear. I know there are several REIs, but was wondering where the locals shop for the best deals. Any help would be great.

Wilderness Exchange, located next to I-25 at 15th and Platte in downtown Denver, 1 block from the REI flagship store.

Check out Jax Outdoor Gear as well, good ol local company. They have a store in Ft Collins, Loveland, Lafayette, and are opening a store in Broomfield.

If you happen to veer off of I-25 a bit, and into the Boulder Bubble, there is Neptune Mountaineering on the SW corner of South Broadway and Table Mesa.

Bent Gate Mountaineeting in Golden is good too.

Based on their website, I'd say 123mountain in Frisco has the best selection of gear in the State, if not the country. They've got everything!

We don't have a solid plan as of yet. We will have our 6 year old with us on this trip. I would like to get up to some snow, and just give him the experience on "mountaineering". We will be coming from east Texas. We will drive to New Mexico, and take I25 to Fort Collins. I'm considering taking the wife and kid up the East Slabs of Whales Tail. That should put us in the Boulder area, but it looks like rain on Monday and Tuesday.

Not really a climbing gear store but Sports Authority on 104th Ave (Northglenn- Northern suburb of Denver), just off I-25, has 30% off everything (going out of business) and they have a good selection of shoes, clothes and some camping gear

WILDERNESS EXCHANGE!!! they rock, don't sell anything they wouldn't use personally, knowledgeable, and humble. They all do the activities they pedal, so they know their stuff. They also like buying closeouts and cosmetic 2nds so some of their stuff is heavily discounted and you can sneak real awesome deals.
