Moving to Rome

I am moving to Rome from Squamish, May 1 for the next few years, and I am looking to find some partners. I have climbed quite a bit across the dolomites over the last 7 years, mainly the long trad routes. I belong to CAI since 2008 and have been climbing, ice climbing and mountaineering for 20 years. We also just had our first baby. So if there are any folks or locals who may be keen for the long dolo routes or do some dual babysitting bouldering action so we can actually get some free passes to go do the long routes...shoot me a mail. I am climbing around 5.11b on the granite cracks of Squamish.

Cheers

I'm sure you already know this...but the Dolomiti are quite far from Rome.

I live near Milan, but would definitely be willing to meet up if our schedules align.

Hey both of you (or someone else?)

I will be in the Cortina area July 22nd-25th and partnerless (part of a longer family trip).
Looking to climb classic dolomites route(s), long is good. Esp. something like the Comici route on Cime Grande, but open to suggestions.
Its a long way off, but if you have interest, shoot me a P.M. and we can chat.
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Ryan,

Awesome - lets keep in touch. I am sure I can train up to meet you. Ya I know...hopefully we will move north, but for now its Rome. Mark, thats a good time for the Comici, why dont we also stay in touch. I have done most of the trade routes from the Auronzo...but not the Comici as its either been super busy or super cold.

Since I am starting a new job I will likely stuck to weekends for a bit.

Thanks for the replies, I am starting to worry about my climbing time as I usually hit Squamish after work...and I know Rome will be a bit more challenging.

Can anyone recommend a climbing gym in Rome for me? I have been here for a week now and I am getting weak :)

Thanks

I live in Napoli, I'll be here for the next few years, I would love to meet up, I can mostly only do day climbs so within a few hours of Napoli, but I can take leave if you get a really sweet trip lined up for the far north. I have zero cold weather gear though, I'll start getting some funds together for that.

Hey I've been in Rome for a year now and coming from CA climbing 5 times a week Rome has nothing to offer really gym wise. The "best " gym is called Star Wall they have a FB page but really when I saw this gym I was in shock and for the prices they charge its ridiculous. The gym is also really far and from the center impossible to get to by public transport. But I would go to the gym and try to find / make friends with as many climbers and go outdoors with them thats the best way .

Hi, I'll be living in Florence from September-December. I've never lived or climbed in Italy before but I want to climb as much as possible on weekends while I am there! I don't lead trad but can lead sport up to around 5.10c/5.11a range. Let me know if you're interested in meeting up somewhere to climb this fall!

Great Lance,

I think I can leave the kid at home, lets see if we can get out when you are here. I should have a car by the time you guys arrive.

Good to hear! Ill let you know when we're in your area. We should be there early to mid July and stay for as long as we can find couches to sleep on! Do weekends or Weekdays work better for you?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
