I'm a very beginner mountaineer, lemme get that out there.

But I'm getting two wildly contrasting reports of this route: online, it is NOT recommended to go solo or without crevasse rescue training except maybe in August when the crevasses are more visible; from fitter, more experienced friends here, they all say it's a simple skin up and the route is clear and it'd not be difficult for me. I genuinely can't tell which is more accurate.

I live in Jackson WY and I'm visiting Seattle these dates. I want to climb a mountain, so maybe someone would like to join me, so I don't have to worry as much. I'll have skis, crampons, a bivy, a stove, a rope, all the things except pickets. And ski crampons.

I'll also take well-meaning advice. i.e. "go ski mt adams instead you lunk!" or "the corn is amazing on route X!"

This site is not great for mountaineering. Check cascade climbers for that.

Hire a guide.

I recommend this service:

How much risk are you willing to take? If a lot, go solo; if a little, then 1-2 competent, crevasse rescue trained partners would be wise.

There used to be a foot race from Bellingham to the summit of Baker, every person for themselves. adventuresnw.com/mountain-r…

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
