Your Favorite Climbing Foods
|
For breakfast I eat large amounts of whatever is available. Sometimes it's eggs, or yogurt, cereal, whatever. Lox bagels are a favorite |
|
I use a more psuedoscientific and unprovable approach to eating. It's also lazy. |

Families can be convinced to just walk away from what's left of their pizza at the deck. Bear boxes aren't usually locked. Supermarkets throw out tons of food in the dumpters out back. And you guys call yourselves climbers.... Pfft.Awesome |

Also funny how the OP climbs (or suggests he does) about as hard as the patronizing climbers... Cool, we get it, you're better than him. Move on. |

Avacadoes. Just don't let them explode in your pack. Also, you finally get to use that knife you stashed in your chalk bag. |

Backpacker Pucks, the best trail bar there is. Great for alpine starts, mid day trail snacks; good with wine and coffee, separately that is. |

Super sticky, oily, salty, savory and loaded with carbs and fats: |

I am gluten intolerant, and allergic to peanuts . I cant digest much when I am climbing, cliff bars make me really sick. I can digest power bars and gu. I go for chocolate milk asap after climbing(recomended by my pt guy) . |

Cuties/clementines are amazing for a quick pick me up. It feels like injecting liquid sugar straight into your veins. Plus they're compact, cheap, and travel ok without getting too beat up. |
|
I usually have PB&J, cliff bars, apple sauce and maybe some Jerkey for long days or multi pitch. Also, usually some type of sugar with me just in case, like a snickers |
|
Triple decker pb+j, sometimes butter and melted cheese added. Poptarts. Hot ramen in thermos with fried spam added. Apple sauce (metal lid is folded into a spoon) and cup-o-fruit type stuff. Fruit snax. The gnarliest cheapest meat byproduct stick snack i can find. I love bananas but have yet to get serious about protecting them for transport, luckily i have a rather high bruise tolerance. This diet makes u absolutely levitate up climbs yall. |

Multipitch: I am stunned no one has mentioned Pearsons salted nut roll. King size is 450 calories and won’t melt in your pocket. And please. Do not talk about paydays. They are garbage. It is all about the salted nut roll. Available at mavericks. Also spring energy makes a “gel” that is actually real food- get the speednut flavor has 150, yes 150 mgs of caffeine. Spendy but worth it. Have to go to a running store or online to get these. Also the “fuel for fire” smoothie packs you can get at sprouts by the baby food. They give you fruit plus protein. Come on people you aren’t carrying freakin bananas and apples up multipitch! No fuss with any of this stuff. Grab and go. Combine for balanced diet. Use LMNT drink powder in your water for max cramp prevention. This is The Way. |

Lunch: PB+J (or some variation), apple Snacks: trail mix ( I make my own and it is the shit: Cashews, dark chocolate chips, wasabi peas, jumbo flame raisins and those red spicy Japanese rice cracker things. nuts for fat and protein, sugar for quick energy, salt to help metabolize water and spicy for delicious). Kind bars are good. Camp Dinner: pasta with tomato, garlic, tinned fish, lemon and herbs. Dialed |

PBH & B sandwich |

Breakfast: chunky PB, honey, bananas, on whole wheat. Tea or coffee. Snacks: bars, apple, jerky, nuts/trail mix in random pockets, another banana. Ride home: whatever is left over. Rare treat: Mexican Coke I should really eat more on long days. Maybe more salt too. |

On ice climbing days, I always pack a toasted english muffin with a couple slices of sharp cheddar cheese in between the halves. I usually forget to eat it, but it makes a nice snack on the drive home, especially when I let it warm up on the dashboard with the defroster blowing hot. <chef's kiss> |
