I've been in January, February, and April, but I'll be in Las Vegas for about two weeks in August for work. I'm sure its been asked, but should I bring my rock gear? Still haven't done many of the mega classics including Epinephrine. Would love to get some climbing in while I'm down there.

Man it can be wonderfully be brutal. 110 degrees downtown and 90+ degrees up in the mountains. Dark Shadows, Community Pillar and Epinephrine face north and see a lot of shade (especially Dark Shadows), but it's still 90 degrees in the shade and the approach out in the sun will be a sizzling in 100 degrees. Get a super early apline start - walk in from the road at 3am - or sooner. A cooler option is to catch some great alpine sport routes on Mt. Charleston.

Great time of year to trad crag at places like Willow Springs. Or clip bolts in the canyon early, ending by 9, and then coming back to business around evening time. I personally have climbed some MP routes in August, but only with homemade Gatorade in tow. That being said, it's been a pretty mild spring so far, so maybe you'll get lucky in August.

People do it, I do it. Just be careful to not climb on black rock in direct sun(even if your a n8v, and totally used to the heat braj) or your foot might look like mine ... From ^^a not so north facing climb in August in RR.

I wouldn't hesitate to bring yer gear, Red Rock is good for climbing year round. Just bring some frozen water. I've never found it too hot to climb there, but then again, I've been told that I'm an optimist. It's about 15* cooler in the shade at RR than it is in LV. Pine Creek, First Creek, and Black Velvet all have pools you can jump in throughout the summer. Climbs with good crack systems have built in air conditioning when the wind blows right. Best of all... No crowds :)

Good to know about willow creek and the north facing aspects; bringing ice and electrolytes are great advice. I like the sound of limited crowds, will hope to get lucky with the temperatures!

It's very easy to climb here all summer, I do it! Just seek out the shady routes and a chimney or two. Black Velvet is loaded with summertime option. Community Pillar, Black Widow Hollow, etc. Just get up early and get into the canyons before you roast in the sun. If you climb in places like Pine Creek and there has been a rain in the past week or two, the pools are a good cooling off option. Get off your climb and hop in.
