How long is the rap from Monkeyface?

How long exactly is the rap from the boulder atop monkey face. IE the standard 2x 60M rope rappel. I know the guidebook and MP say 2x60M ropes. I don't have 2 60M ropes with me right now and wanted to know if a 60M and another somewhat shortened 60M (chopped a few feet from it, so lets call it a 55M) would work. I haven't done it and don't know if it is a rope stretcher or merely a double 50 comes up a few feet shy. Someone know?

A double 50 would not make it without some serious down climbing. A double 57.5 (a 60 and a 55) will do fine, you will have some easy fifth (Yosemite 4th) to down climb, but you'll be good. Make sure you rap from the correct rap station, which is just above 'panic point'.
And might i suggest doing one of the west face variations?
enjoy it, take time to sit on top, expect to wait in line if the weather is good.

Well did it today. Plenty of slack on The ground with my lead 60m and a chopped to 55m tag line. If anyone is wondering like I was this will get you to the ground. There was also a rap station about 30+ ft up from the ground on the ledges near the notch so even if it came up shy it would have been OK.

Good on you for the follow-up report. From which rap station did you rap? The one above panic point, or the mouth?

I never bring a 2nd line. Use a 70m. rap from the summit to the rap station above the notch.

Good to know about the 70m. Going solo a 70 would have worked for everything with some planning. I dangled the tag line (which was tied off to the anchors) off my haul loop to help me pull back into the anchors while rapping back down to clean the pitch. It was good solo practice on the overhanging sections.
