While the snowpack is slightly above average I would still consider this to be a fairly normal season. In most years the keyhole route is classified as a technical route until late june or into july because of snow in the trough and on the homestretch. These snow fields are exposed and the snow is firm enough to require and axe and crampons. In addition many parties will want a light rope to protect icy sections of 3rd or 4th class rock going from the keyhole to the trough and around the narrows. The keyhole is a legit mountaineering objective under current conditions so don't go unless you have appropriate gear and experience.

have fun
