Best knife for your rack

Rick Blair wrote: The remix also does not have a bear opener. In reality the bottle opener function on the buck is not very good. Too small in your hand and hurts to use. I just use my nut tool or my lighter to open post climb beers. As for bear opening, I'd go for a knife with a longer blade and better handle to get through that tough bear skin. |

All of those knives are cute, but what would you do if you got into a fight with someone? How are you going to eviscerate your opponent, which is my signature move? I think you will find such small knives are not up to the task. |

I carry a Trango Pirhana. Tiny, serrated, locks open, biner clip-in hole (blade won't open from a closed position when clipped in, by design) |

leatherman squirt ... |

I would also add that I have had Metolius TCUs for a long time and never had them slowly slide out of the rock before. |

The pirhana looks excellent for severing limbs as well. |

ChrisJohnsonMT wrote: Like the OP I have been looking for a knife for climbing. This is the best.I have heard this before and like the idea for a back up, but these are not exactly easy to use without a handle and also easy to drop. A knife with a handle is not replacable by a razor blade, IMO. |

Based on comments here, just bought CRKT "NAID" - this thing rocks! Extremely light weight, genius design! |

To anybody now reading this, I would recommend against using a non serrated blade as your climbing knife. The Trango - Piranah knife is probably the best low bulk option provided you use the right carabiner. If you want an actual knife with a handle for more general or winter use the petzl knife is the way to go, being able to cut up cheese, cured meat and butter is a great thing to be able to do and is best done with only a partially serrated knife. |

that guy named seb wrote: I agree. The serrated blades will still cut even when the non-serrated part becomes dull. I have a Spatha. It's a lot easier to use than the mini knives when you're cutting away layers of crunchy tat at rap anchors. It's also a great camping/backpacking knife, plus the colors are fun. The razor blade in the helmet might be a good emergency option but if you are regularly replacing rap anchors a real knife is a lot more convenient and a lot safer as well. |

A tiny 2" blade Gerber, with a tiny cord loop, clipped to a biner or in a pocket, depending. |
|
Mini EMT snips, cut anything but less likely to cut the wrong thing if you are hanging under tension. Fingernails and toenails too if careful. For peanut butter I prefer the Super Long Dong. |

petzl version is perfect TBH. |
