Did I on-sight?

I recall a post where someone actually said that they onsighted a route on their 5th try! Talk about unclear on the concept!

You did a classic move know as a downward dyno and saved the ONSIGHT

On a side note, if you victory whip because you are too pumped to clip the chains ... no onsight?

Chill.

Yes he fell, but he caught the fall (ie, controlled it) using his own limbs without weighting the rope. An uncontrolled fall would require that he weighted the rope or hit the ground.

The onsight stands.

Shoot, I lost an onsight last week because I grabbed the draw when I was having trouble clipping the rope into it. I'll have to repoint it next time I'm at that cliff. I would've done it that day, but the rain came in as I was topping out.

Grog is so unnecessarily worked up and fixated on top roping he can't even read the original post. Chill grog you're being a douche.

I can probably find some old marks in guidebooks that say Onsight TR.

I call it a "top flash". Of course this is different than what drunken girls do during Mardi Gras.

Just because this is a funny discussion I'll chime in again.

We're assuming it was on lead and that the rope was not weighted in the fall back to the ledge.

For all those saying the "dynamic downclimbing" is uncontrolled, therefore invalidates the ascent: If you are on a jug, make a deadpoint for a distant hold, miss the hold, but manage to control the fall and catch yourself on the jug, is the ascent invalidated? You made a move but didn't control the hold so you began to fall, but you managed to arrest your own fall using only own body (not the rope). Clean ascent.

Grog

You so clearly have never belayed your partner with your eyes closed so that you could follow his lead with a "tronsight". The toprope onsight takes commitment and is a celebrated part of this sport.

Also Magpie the top flash is often just referred to as a "trash". This technique is often seen in the Red.

Often heard in Miguels- "I totally "trashed" fuzzy undercling bro that's my first 5.11 send!"

I prefer the term "TRonsight," but "Trash" is good as well.

If you fell, that means you couldn't stick the moves first try, and therefore you blew the onsight. Falling to a ledge is no different than falling to the ground, it's that word "FALL/FELL" that can't be associated with "ONSIGHT". Thats my opinion, but just like assholes, not all are created equal. Stay Safe!

Maybe? My onsight test is "would I have died if I were free-soloing" (i.e. the rope and gear were just a safety blanket), and if the answer is "no" you onsighted. Sounds like you might have just bounced to the ledge if you were free-soloing.

Similar to the difference between Onsighting and flashing, you can both tronsight something and trash something they are not the same.

Grog, he says he fell to a ledge and clipped the chains. Doesn't sound like TR. You can fall below a draw, or just say didn't weight the rope as a qualifier of of why you think you onsighted.

OP, this is between you and your gods. Sounds like you want it to be an onsight. Click the button on MP and make it so.

You 100% onsighted this bro. As long as you didnt pull on any aid aka gear in anyway its an onsight. You stayed on the route and did not need any assistance. So you got it clean!

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
