MASSIVE Granite Dome Collapse Caught on Video |

Freaking Amazing, the Glories of the Natural Processes of Mother Nature-Exfoliation! |
|
and in that moment, a new crag was ready to bolt |
|
I think the real question is whether a cordalette, an equallette or a quad would be better in such a situation. Or maybe a rope anchor and double ropes for redundancy. |
|
Incredible! Are there any other videos of such large exfoliation events? This is definitely the largest I've seen. |
|
I wonder if half dome did the same thing |

There is many more big rock/snow/mud/landslides captured on film but nothing I've seen that has been from a large cohesive rockface. There are tinier events closer to home captured. (When I say tiny they still are big and potentially deadly.) But nothing compared to the Brazil footage. youtube.com/watch?v=H0YhlqP… |

Would love to see before/after pictures of that wall. Where is it/ what's it called? |

eli poss wrote:mmmmmmmm gotta love some chossChoss? Do you call Yosemite choss? This is how the domes of Tuolumne are formed. This is also an occuring processing in Yosemite Valley. How long do you think it is before one of those Arches go on Royal Arches? There wouldn't be much left of the Ahwahnee Hotel? |

Just a great reminder that we shouldn't take rock quality for granite. |

I found a collection of videos of large rockfalls and landslides on this American Geophysical Union blog |
|
Damn, crazy to see that, I'm sure they were thankful for being so far away. Is that moisture in the air or dust from previous rock falls? |
