Went out to the Pinnacles yesterday to help my brother rig this highline. He walked it no problem. Surfed till he whipped, leash caught his nards on the fall. Fucking hilarious. Afterwards we set up a little rope swing off of it and did some climbing. An awesome day!!!

Yep.

Edit: It was "fucking hilarious" that your brother fell on his nuts? Sounds very, uh, funny.

I was hiking through yesterday and stopped for a minute to watch your first send with my mom and brother. My mom was stoked to watch you guys, keep it up!

One anchor was a giant pine, about 3 feet in diameter and the other anchor was 4 half inch bolts in very solid rock. I would say it's about as bombproof as you can get.

You would've needed to be there I guess.

Looks like Hummingbird Spire in in the background?

Back in the 50s/60s the equivalent was tyroleans. One was done from the Monolith to the rim, and another between the North and South Yaks.

That is the Hummingbird Spire! The line is between Big Bad West and the tree at the Split Boulders. We've scoped out the line from the rim to the Monolith and I was considering the Yaks as well. It's the first of many!!!

On another note, I met and partied with your son Skyler on Dinner Ledge last weekend. It was an awesome time!

Does anyone know if there have been other highlines out at the Pinnacles?

Hey Max. I met and talked at length with your brother Simon on Saturday August 13th. I opened up a discussion on the Pinnacles climbing forum Mud n Crud (mudncrud.com). It would be great if you guys could join and get in on the discussion. There have been a couple of good comments so far.
Here is a direct link to the thread.

Hi guys,
I know this post is a a little out of date, but I wanted to add a bit here.

I work with Slackline U.S., a national non profit advocacy group modeled after the American Alpine Club and the Access Fund. We have relationships with these organizations, and also with various state and national parks and land management agencies. One of our major goals is to protect and develop access for the slackline community. You can find out more about what we're doing at slackline.us

We were contacted today about bolting at Pinnacles for highlines. What we know so far is that the park would like to be part of the bolt decision process, possibly requiring a permit for bolting highlines.

I've read through the Mud n Crud thread that was linked here as well. I'm just wondering if there are more lines being bolted, that have been bolted already, and if there's anything Slackline US can do to help facilitate working with the rangers. We have a lot of info we can share on highline safety and we've worked with other parks on similar issues.

Cheers!

Sonya

No new anchors have been drilled that i know of. Lately, we have been searching for locations where natural anchors can be used.

Yeah. It's one of the things highlining borrowed from climbing. First person to cleanly send the line usually gets naming rights. We also say "send" even though we traverse more than ascend...
