Go back to brooklyn boulders and get the out of the Gunks

I understand that your shiny new Brooklyn boulders lead card in, your mind at least, makes you a real rock climber. I get it.. your from NYC and think the rest of the world is a full of a bunch of bumpkin whom if they get in your way there being assholes.. But do us all a favor and stay out of the Gunks, or any crag for that matter. There is plenty of bouldering in central park to keep you entertained. You don't even have to rent a zip car to get there.

I know your self entitlement makes it hard to see how your a giant douchbag. I know you all think the sun shines out of your ass, so let me compile a list of things that happened last weekend at the mac wall that can help guide you in deciphering if you are in fact.. a douchebag

1) When I'm on lead on a Pg/R rated 5.10b which happens to be really close to my limit.. don't snivel to your friends next to my belayer about how I'm climbing too slow. Don't say.. psh if you can't climb something in a timley manner (ie.. in the timeframe which I the NYC idiot have deemed to be approporaite based on my Brooklyn boulders belay card creds) then you don't deserve to be on it". I'm sorry I took an hour on the climb but you know what? I got there first so deal with it.. Sorry it takes me some time to work out moves when I'm trying to not break my ankles by falling 20 ft to a ledge. I'm damn proud that I hung on for an hour and still made the send.

2) Just because you led one climb over doesn't mean you can call dibs on the pitch my partner is about to climb before he starts up it... When my 2nd partner to attempt the route is putting his shoes on don't rig a directional directly above the climb and then lover over my ropes. Defiantly don't leave your god damn rope hanging directly over the crux of the climb were still on. Please don't make me pull my rope through your ropes and get them tangles so my partner has to untangle them at the anchor. Oh and defiantly don't just walk away and leave the rope up while you go do another toprope lap with you stupid friends..

This last point was absolutely unbelievable to me.. To have the audacity to throw a rope on top of my rope and then leave it and walk away so you could have "dibs" is the single most self entitled act I've ever seen at the gunk's. I don't care how long a party is on one climb.. if they are there then there on it.. Wait you turn or move on. There are more climbs than anyone could possible do in a lifetime at the
Gunks. Go explore

So please if you want a gym where people take 5 minutes on a pitch and you can tope rope till you hearts content please go back to Brooklyn. If you gunna come to the Gunks or any where else.. Don't be a giant piece of shit.. and wait your damn turn.. Or here's a crazy idea climb one of the other 1,000 pitches. Go back to Brooklyn where your mommy and daddy can buy you an ice cream and remind you that your are in fact the center of the universe.

But I was already climbing it. I should have to not do a pitch to avoid someone being a jerk? We should just expect to have people be rude to us and avoid those areas? That's how the terrorist win man..

I think you should go to brooklyn boulders. I was climbing 5.10b on my first day of climbing ever there. Can't do a 5.6 outside though because the walls at the gunk are set so bad, also there wasn't any good hip music when i went so i left a bad review on yelp.

Mac wall is not really in the closure.. Laughing man is was at the end of the mac wall

Did you or your belayer do or say anything to combat the rudeness?
Or explain how you are here, occupying the climb and will be for some time?
When dealing with people relatively new to outside climbing or new to a certain area, we (nice, friendly, conscientious climbers) need to enlighten certain people that they are no longer in the gym and need to follow the ethics of the crag.
If you said or did nothing then you are just as guilty as him in promoting that type of behavior.

Not saying your complaint isn't valid but to just post it to MP does little. Try educating those who might otherwise being annoying. They might take it, they might not. But to just post up without doing so it like bitching about politicians but not voting.

As someone who splits time between NYC and the Gunks, I can see both perspectives on this. But have to say I find the broad generalizations of your argument to be offensive. I'd suggest dealing with this issue directly with those involved.

Sounds like a pretty typical day at the Mac Wall to me!

Definitely not cool for someone to rig a directional over the climb you're doing while your second is still putting on his/her shoes and without asking. But keep in mind the Mac Wall has become essentially an outdoor gym, and on a weekend, you're going to be sharing close quarters with other climbers. The key is communication. Based on your screed, it sounds like you're not very good at communication. As with most climbing-based arguments/fights, you're both probably at fault. Instead of posting an immature (partially incoherent) rant about all NYC climbers (the last line doesn't fix the stupid shit you said earlier), how about a little more self-reflection? What could you have done better? What could the other person have done better?

And trust me, NYC climbers don't have a monopoly on acting like dumb-asses at the Gunks.

Sorry let me clarify please. One perspective is the Gunks local frustrated with the people from NY who are not respectful like those you ran into. Another is the perspective of people like me from NY who are respectful and are offended by comments such as these.

I did read the last line of your post but my view remains that the argument too broadly generalizes.

It's not that I don't like your post. But damn man of course people are going to be offended by what you wrote. Don't act surprised when they write they are. Maybe you are pissed, but I doubt you're that stupid.

Next time say something right then and there. I would have been yelling at the dude from the ground and at his belayer. Just saying...
