Idiotic question about West Virginia

The last time I was in WV, the AAC campground host kidnapped me and sodomized me in his tiny house. I'd be more upset about it but his mandolin playing was soothing and he's a gentle lover.

This thread has taught me that people in the South are soooo nice they'll punch you in the nose if you dare question it.

As a result we pass through some very small "towns" where the vibe is definitely less than welcoming. That being said we never have had a real issue and the roads/area you will be in to get to Seneca do not take you into those type of areas.
This. A while back, my wife, brother-in -law and myself road tripped from D.C. to Fayetteville for some rafting on the New River (way too hot to climb sadly). Fayetteville was totally fine, as well as the larger towns. But we shortcut down some back roads around Ruppert and Rainelle, and I got to say that there was a pretty heavy vibe driving through there. I'm going to sound all hippie, crystal energy and the like, but it was this weird, almost palpable feeling. Call me a liberal hater, but I drive through what are considered less desireable parts of LA all the time, have backpacked through third world countries, arab nations, etc., and never gotten that feeling, ever. And I don't own a gun because I feel I need protection or that people are out to get me either. My wife and brother-in-law all felt the same way and there was a collective feeling of relief when we got to a larger town. Never happened before or since. We all had a fine time and would go again, but I make a point to skip that stretch of backroad.

Impossible. At least we know you're joking now. I applaud your well orchestrated troll.

I'm blown away by the ridiculousness of this question. I think the OP violated rule #1.

Many years ago My wife and I were lost in the Monongahela National Forest around Slatyfork WV. We rode our bikes twenty miles in the opposite direction. We were also lost about a thousand feet of elevation. We were stopped looking at the map, which was worthless since the trail we were on wasn't on the map, when a pick up truck appeared.

The truck had three people in it and was loaded with about 20 bails of hay. I flagged the driver down. The driver was about 80 years old, the passenger was a lady about 30 and a eight year old little girl. I asked if he could tell me where I was and he replied "Is that your truck up on the ridge?" I told that's my truck and he told me my truck was 20 miles away up in that ridge. I took me like a second to realize I would never make it back to my truck so I asked for a ride. The gentleman told me if I could get us and our bikes on top the load of hay he would give us a ride.

As soon as we started I kept track of the time. I figured the more time this guy spent rescuing us the more cash I would give him. Especially since I inconvenienced his family too. It took 25 minutes to get back to my truck. They even showed me where I made the "wrong turn". I missed the single track back into the woods instead we rode down Mine Road for 10 miles.

I got forty bucks together to give to the old guy. He refused the cash and said "I didn't do it for the money". I thanked him and apologized to the girls for wasting their time. About ten minutes after we got back to the cabin we watched a bad thunderstorm from the front porch.

I wrote this whole story down so when I call you a dumb bitch you understand where I'm coming from.

As usual you don't know what you're talking about.

I bought (I mean brought) a black friend to Slatyfork WV. All the guys and gals that grew up there enjoyed Odell's company and asked if he was coming back for months.

I'm glad you met some nice, decent folks who were able to help you out in a pinch. I generally like to think that most people are good and will, when given the opportunity, help out others in a like fashion. As we all know, there are exceptions to the rule, which is why we have police, prisons, etc.

While I agree that the OP's thread was a little naive, maybe even a little ignorant, this response is pretty over the top. Just because you came across some nice people, other people aren't so lucky, and it doesn't mean that she deserves to be called this for being cautious.

That's funny since I'm getting schooled for writing about the experiences my friend Odell had in WV. He ain't white homey.

But you grew up in Hagerstown so you're right. Wait.. You didn't grow up. Come on tell us the truth.

Honestly cannot disagree more. I was there a month ago and they were friendly, there were drive up campsites for $8 pp/night which these days is reasonable. There was potable water, cold and hot, and free hot showers in heated bathrooms (if you go for that sort of thing). Tent sites had tons of space, fire rings, and picnic tables (and admittedly some road noise from the nearby trucking route).

Most importantly, it's right across the road from the trailhead. No need to pack up the car every morning.

I was under the impression that the bad reviews were from people looking for a KOA type experience.
As a climber there for a week it was everything I was looking for, certainly preferable to the options in the Gunks these days with he MUA closing.

The partisan split in WV is 50 republican to 29 democrat. Trump's polling at 40%. So about 24% of the state supports Trump. Sounds like "most" to me.

But what do I know, I'm just using logic instead of being bigoted.
