Allen Hill

A climber in pure SPlatte tradition, journalist, and cinematographer who absolutely HATED ice climbing passed away at his home. He had suffered terribly from MS and the depression resulting. There's a topic on the Topo, but he'd hate it if I just linked something. His pictures from the Eiger Sanction, breath-taking. He was always happy to hear us run out some insane wilderness climb with only tri cams and hexes, using no bolts. The Ocelot & Sphinx park were our adventures, but at different times in life. The Cyn Pin and Cathedral Spires, always filled with magnificence of wilderness conservation. He was a quiet supporter of those sacrificing in EMS & Mountain Rescue, knowing every time Flight for Life was overhead, people cared. It is sad he is gone, but I find solace that his torments have ended. 51 and young. My glass raised. |

Neighbor of mine and a true character, he will be missed. Allen was a tremendous story teller and friendly does not begin to describe him. He was one of those people anyone would want to sit down and have a beer with. |

I wish we would have kept that coffee date we talked about, Allen. Carpe diem. |

He sold me a crash pad 7-8 years ago that I think he was surprised he actually owned. We met at the Lobby in Denver at 4 and conversation/beers kept us there until 11. I wish I would have taken him up on the obscure tour of the platte. RIP Allen. |
