Hi everyone,

I am doing my Master Thesis about the company Patagonia and I would love to get your help and opinions about the company, particularly to understand if consumers buy it because of their environmental protection actions.
What do you think?

Can you please answer this survey as well. Is less than 10 minutes and would be a huge help for me. Sorry for disturbing!

I don't buy Patagonia because it fits like a garbage bag. I would prefer some hard facts before I take into account their environmental impact into my decision of what to buy.

I Used to think Patagonia was badass because of what they represent and I loved 180 degrees south and yada yada yada. Then i got the down sweater, within a week it began leaking small amounts of down and a week later had two tiny holes. very surprising considered i babied the thing. Many people i know also have felt like the life span of Patagonia items is sub-par, especially given the price tag.

Over the years, I have bought many Patagonia products because of the high-quality, not because of their contribution to the environment.

The majority of my outdoor clothing is made by Patagonia. Everything "performs" as described and is durable. And the majority of my future purchases will be from Patagonia.

strange that no on mentions MECs commitment to the environment ...

In 2007, we joined 1% for the Planet, an alliance of businesses who believe in providing financial support to environmental initiatives. Since 1987, we've invested over $29 million in Canada's environmental and outdoor communities through our community involvement program. We're committed to donating a full 1% of our annual gross sales to Canadian causes.

I have a fair amount of Patagonia stuff and mostly like it but I also find that it wears out faster than it should, especially for the price. That said, I don't think I'll be buying any more because environmental activism (which Patagonia strongly supports) is not well balanced and will likely shut down some of the places that I like to play which is the reason that I buy expensive jackets in the first place.

Meh whatever. Pretty much every outdoor company nowadays is parts of 1% for the Planet.

Pretty well designed survey, good luck with your thesis. How do you intend to deal with sampling bias? Perhaps you can share the results once you are further along in your research.

The patagonia I buy is because it is quality equipment and clothing. To me, it represents a good balance between cost and quality.

I buy Patagonia because it fits. Pat's XXL sizes have been getting more trim (in the upper body) so I don't how much longer their clothes will fit me. The Cap1, R1 hoody and the Northwall line are my favorites. Again it's the fit. The R1 is cut very long so although I'm 6'3" it doesn't ride up. The Cap1 feels very comfortable against my skin and fits well.

Patagonia started an environmental campaign to save Jumbo Pass from being developed into a ski resort. I've skied there a bunch and love the area. I would Patagonia gear more so now that I see they're helping to save Jumbo.

Patagonia generally fits me terribly but I do rock their logo hats and such because I believe they are a great company after reading up on their environmental efforts, not to mention their place in climbing history.

Take it from a professor: conducting M.A. research online = weak

Hear it from me here before anyone in academia.

May as well fabricate all of the research entirely. It's ironic given the consulting major; if I were paying for consulting I would expect primary data that wasn't anonymous. This is probably a good time to develop proper work ethics. I would be embarrassed even if it were undergrad.

Meh...whatever. If it was ever really about the environment they wouldn't advertise it. Patagucci runs the "don't buy from us sale" and then spams my email and mails me a 40 page color catalog announcing the non-sale. MEC is no different other than the goofy accent.

Only takes about 5-10 minutes. I was hoping for a comment section at the end though; even if it limited characters to 200 or less.

In all sincerity (as opposed to online anonymous discourteous manners), it's a poorly drafted survey.
Questions have too many words, response choice selection too limited, and generally biased in it's form.
Signed,
Ph.D, I'd rather not say, single and available, multi-national, human-gendered, immortal.
P.S. If the first question is answered no, the survey thanks us and ends.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
