Sizing TC Pros for Crack/all day comfort

Hey guys,

So I decided to blow my REI dividend on a pair of TC Pros, but I'm not sure if I got the right size (46). My main motivation for getting these is crack climbing and all day/multipitch comfort, but I want them to edge as well as possible. My street size is 13 (47?) and I usually wear 45 for an aggressive sport fit (Miura, Moccs). I own a pair of Katana Laces that are 45.5...this is a really nice comfortable 1-2 pitch fit (toes are slightly curled after break in, and I can get an aggressive fit if I crank the laces), but they are a bit painful for hand-fist size jamming due to the curled toes. The 46 TC Pros felt weird out of the box when I tried them on, but super comfortable...which got me worried. The laces are super loose and I can tell that they'll cinch up well when I adjust them, but I'm concerned about stretch. Any advice?

Just did the same thing. Mine are a comfortable fit at two sizes below my street shoe. I attempted to go 2.5 sizes smaller but they were too tight. REI employee/ climber said they'd stretch a 1/2 size but not too much. He said he has two pairs, a comfy fit and a tight fit.

I wear a 39 katana (performance fit) and a 39 tc (all day crack shoe. Hope this helps.

Yeah, I messed around with the lacing system and managed to get them quite tight, but still with mostly flat toes. They're starting to get that "suction cup" feel you hope for, we'll see how they fare once I try climbing in them.

I'm a 47 street and wear a 46 TC for all day. I bought a pair 2 years ago that fit about a half size smaller than this years size 46...the new pair is more comfortable and climbs every bit as well. I haven't been out enough in the new pair for them to stretch...the old pair didn't stretch much but broke in on the toes, and the heel tension relaxed.

My Solutions are a 41, fully broke in and murder my toes, my TC Pros are 40.5 and fit snug but comfy, no dead space or hot spots, with plenty of break-in time left. Don't know why they run so big, but you will want to do at least a half-size smaller than your other climbing shoes

Cool, good to know!

I am a 45 street shoe and were a 44 TC pro. I could probably go smaller if not wearing them all day. They stay pretty stiff and don't stretch much from my experience with them.

Definitely don't get them too loose. I did with my first pair and for me they did stretch a good amount. Now that pair gives me blisters on top of the base of my pinky toes when I jam in them.. Ouch. I dropped a half size and that stopped, and the shoe performs substantially better. I'd drop another half size next time I need a new pair. Or at least try to. For me they've softened up quite a bit with use and I think they'd edge better if they were a little tighter. I doubt I'd want the tighter pair for all day jamming though, just saying that I think you may regret it if your brand new pair is already totally all day comfy.

One full size smaller than your street shoe. They run big

Hey Ted, we're probably twins.

My street shoe size is also a 13 and I have Katana Laces that are also 45.5. I can climb 1-2 pitches in the Katana before needing to take them off, and I have solutions size 45 (though I wish I sized down further to 44.5). But regardless, the TC pros fit me best at 45.5. They're snug but not bad at all and will stretch to be perfect. I also tried on a 46 which was super comfy and made my feet happy but I'm glad that I went with the 45.5.

I wear a 47 street and am using 45.5 miuras for up to 2 pitch stuff. Went with 46 TC Pro and am happy with that size. They edge well for how comfy they fit.

I had the velcro miura on the P3 last and it didn't really stretch much at all for me.

My 2 cents. I'm no shoe expert.

Try 'em on if possible (obvious)

Mine are 10.75 and I wear an 11.5 in street shoes. Fit snug but comfy with flat toes.

I've had the opposite experience as many of the above posters with my TC Pros. I wear a 39 street shoe, and at first I tried the TC Pros in a 38. Felt ok in the store but climbing in them felt awful. Went to the 38.5, that was a bit better, but still not good. Finally tried the 39 (same as my street size) and been in love ever since.

So I think you need to have them with enough room that your toes are not curled at all. Just barely touching the front of the shoe. I'd start with your street shoe size. With the stiff last, they edge pretty well on their own, without your toes crammed up in the front. That's my two cents.

Also, they don't seem to stretch at all. On my third pair now.

Three pairs?? Jesus. Why would you downsize for cracks? Wouldn't your clown shoe size be better for that?

Sweet! Always nice to find a fellow Sasquatch. Also good to know about the Solutions, as I've been meaning to pick up a pair eventually. I'm the same way with the Katanas...really comfortable for 1-2 pitches and nice performance, but I wouldn't want to leave 'em on all day. Since they're built on the same last, I figured I would go with a 46 for crack climbing, but now I'm not sure. Did a few routes in the gym the other day and the TCs were super comfortable. Was very skeptical about smearing, but they actually rock at it, which is weird for such a stiff shoe. Edging...wasn't spectacular, but I'm not sure whether that was due to the fit or if I just need to get used to the feel of the shoe. It's not as though anything rolled off edges or anything, it just felt very insecure.
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
