Hello everybody!
I'm an italian girl, I'm planning my holidays and would like to spent 2/3 weeks in june/july in California for sport climbing/bouldering.
I was thinking to rent a car in S.Francisco, then move to South Lake Tahoe, Yosemite and Bishop.
As I'm travelling alone I would like to ask if the car is the best solution or if I can reach these areas also with public transports.
How much does a car for 2 weeks cost?
Of course I will look for climbing partners or travel companions to share part of the trip. :)
Thank you
dana

Look into Relay Rides. It's an app and you can maybe find a good deal for a car there.

Renting a car is your best option. It's a 3-1/2 to 4 hour drive to South Lake Tahoe from SFO airport.

Not much sport climbing to be found in Yosemite.

Look at some of the big rental car websites for estimating cost:

Hertz, Enterprise, Budget, etc.

There is a tour bus from Tahoe to Yos but it's not cheap.

Unfortunately, we don't have anything like Blah Blah Car. The best option is to look on Craiglist in the rideshare section.

By the way, it's too hot to boulder in Bishop in June and July. You woould be able to boulder at Way Lake or Tom's Place in the summer, or go alpine climbing.

Like Frank said, not much sport climbing in Yosemite. There is excellent bolted face climbing in Tuolumne Meadows, but it tends to be a bit run out. Like everyone says, forget public transport and get a car. If you try to use buses you'll waste half your trip waiting for buses or riding them. Greyhound and other bus companies are truly a wretched way to travel. Fuel is cheap in the US, roads are good, and there are no highway tolls to worry about.

Wow! Thank you all so much. Very useful and preciuous information!!
I'm going to look for a car.. and thank you also for the climbing tips. I will have a look to a few guidebook and check for best bouldering/sport climbing areas for late spring/summer.
Thank you :)

Check out the bouldering in Tuolumne Meadows. It's pretty good! Plus there is a nice sport crag there too, just outside of Yosemite Park, called Private Property Wall, also known as Tioga Cliff.

The app is now called "Turo."
Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
