Going to Memphis mid April for a few days to help a buddy with some stuff. Any climbing areas near willing to travel a little ways, mostly into solo top roping or bouldering

I believe Jamestown in Arkansas is your best bet.

You like slab climbing? This is downtown (saw the Dead there on Spring '95 tour):

Things have improved a lot there. I'd recommend the Arkansas Rock book. A while back the bulk of the climbing was Mt Magazine and Sam's Throne, all about 4-5 hours from Memphis. These days, it's closer to 3 hours to the Jamestown Crags from the western part of Memphis (downtown, etc). If you are in say Germantown or points east of downtown, might be another hour.

The climbing in Arkansas is really good. Short but good. Lots of it too. But if you are looking for multipitch, well, not a lot of it. Doesn't sound like you are though, so you might have a good time on a day trip.

Jamestown Crag is worthwhile, and if you need a partner I'm usually free, just PM me
