Any advice on REMOTE camping around Moab?

Im looking for a place to camp for two nights when i'll be in moab in april. I am searching but to no avail. Im looking for a camp spot that is remote/isolated and don't care too much about the amenities. Up the creek campground has good reviews but im looking for something a bit more isolated and within reasonable distance from moab. ( an hour drive )

thanks for any advice

east along the river you will find Onion Creek rd. Pick a spot on BLM...no services and watch for the (hopefully) dry creek crossings.

Checkout the "Ledge" series of campgrounds out Kane Springs Rd.

I have had good luck with all the dispersed camping in the willow spring area about 20 min north of Moab up 191. Just turn off towards Arches and find a spot to camp...there are plenty.

This area gets super crowded with the 4x4 crowd during spring/fall weekends. Here's the BLM dispersed camping
map.

I'm not sure if it's legal but I have camped several times at the bottom (and inside the little cave) of Looking Glass Arch 20 miles south of town.

The ledge spot down Kane Creek is pretty awesome too but I can almost guarantee you will have neighbors closer than you want.

Willow springs I have never seen less than 20 groups out there. There are tons of random dirt roads particularly out by the airport that could fit the bill.

You can drive up to the top of Long Canyon for some great camping with quite the view. 4x4 is definitely good to have. You're pretty close to town and just above all those great Long Canyon splitters!

Camp at looking glass rock. Then you can climb it the next morning and set up the ropeswing. Its 15 min south of town. I am pretty sure its BLM land.

Dood.

Drive an hour in any direction you choose.

Drive down any dirt road you choose.

High clearance recommended.

I would recommend going towards the Hurrah Pass area down from Kane Creek Road.

45 min to an hour gets you far away from Moab and an excellent place to camp with access to MTBing, hikes too, etc...

dood, not as easy as "drive down any dirt road you choose" anymore. With an estimated 2 million visitors the BLM has change the rules. Much of the area surrounding Moab is limited to established sites only. Most of the area between the Fisher Towers and Castleton, including Onion Creek is no dispersed camping. As is much of the area out off of Kane Springs Rd and Hurrah Pass.

Here's a map.

This one has all the established camp sites.

There is no shortage of BLM rangers patrolling the area and they won't hesitate to issue tickets for illegal camping and, if you argue, an illegal campfire kicker.

True, but he did preface it by saying "drive an hour in any direction", which, if taken literally, would put one well outside of Moab. Hell, an hour gets you to Indian Creek or the eastern end of the Swell.

Guy said he was looking for remote/isolated. If you drive an hour in any direction of Moab you will find free, legal, disbursed camping. If he had said 20 minutes, that's another story.

I had no idea, I guess it's been a while. Thanks for the heads up.

If you don't mind walking a wys there are awesome backcountry/bacckpacking sites in Canyonlands NP. Nobody within miles of you. Best to reserve these ahead of time, though

had to change plans around due to not being able to visit arches or canyon lands but will spend a day in indian creek. looking for a place to stay around indian creek or reasonable drive from there. If it helps, early next morning i'll be heading down to Page, AZ via Monument valley.

I would stay at indian creek but I hear its a zoo in april. Potentially looking at Sand Island Campground

If anyone knows of any dispersed camping from indian creek south towards monument valley please suggest away.

Thanks all.

Dispersed, free BLM camping gets way more available south of the highway 191/Indian Creek turnoff. Pretty much any dirt road coming off the highway between there and Monument Valley (of which there are many) is good to go, pending no private property signs.

Here is an updated link to a georeferenced pdf of BLM camping near Moab (for use with apps like Avenza), and here is the link to the non-georef'd pdf of camping restrictions.

*Exactly* what I've been googling for. Thanks much!
