According to Access Fund and Bighorn Climber Coalition, the Wyoming legislature will vote tomorrow to sell off public lands including Teton Pass, Togwotee Pass, the Beartooth Pass, Bridger-Teton National Forest, the Wind Rivers, Ten Sleep, and the Snowy Range.

The Wyoming legislature does know that it is powerless to compel the United States to transfer federal lands to Wyoming, doesn't it?

Maybe they think they can do it one wildlife refuge at a time. That's working out well so far.

Thanks for posting. Being national forest, the federal government would actually have to sell those rights to the state gov't. Not to say that it can't be done but the oversight the federal government uses to "protect" federal lands is pretty strict.

Wyoming state politics are only interested in exploiting the land, not preserving it for future use. The BLM managed land is a whole nuther can of worms.

There are two bills and one appears to cover non federal Wyoming public lands i.e. state parks. I agree the state can't compel the feds to turn over land. But the state lands are in danger too. I hope everyone will use the Outdoor Alliance link to voice their opposition. Please spread the word!

From Outdoor Alliance:
HB 142 (Transfer of Public Lands) - proposes to seize our public lands in Wyoming and sets up a process to sell off these lands.
HB 126 (Public Land Access) - sets Wyoming on a path toward taking over and privatizing public lands within the state's borders.

I may be reading sale of state public lands into this. Or may be not! Hopefully it gets stopped dead tomorrow.

(It only takes a few minutes to read each bill and they aren't full of legalese) If you read the bill it isn't a land grab so Wyoming can sell off a bunch of public land.
Did you actually read the bills or did you just react like any normal conservative from a conservative state? Straight from HB0142

36-12-202. Transfer of public lands.
2
3 (a) On or before December 31, 2018, the United States
4 shall:
5
6 (i) Extinguish title to all public lands; and
7
8 (ii) Transfer title to public lands to the state
9 of Wyoming.
10
11 (b) If the state subsequently transfers title to any
12 public lands received under subsection (a) of this section,
13 the state shall:
14
15 (i) Retain five percent (5%) of the net proceeds
16 the state receives from the transfer of title; and.

This is a land grab pure and simply. And you guys think those politicians have your best interest at heart? Never totally trust government, we learned that in the sixties. Actually, we learned it in the 40's and 50's but we applied it in the sixties.

The reference to Obama not wanting to help Wyoming because it's a red state is simply BS. I bet if you looked for the real reason the funding is down it has nothing to do with politics.

As a disclaimer, I didn't read the rest of the bill. Maybe there is a spot where they say "oops, we didn't really mean take the land and sell it".

Once they own the land you can bet within a decade or so it will be sold to developers. It I'm wrong so be it but I would rather err on the side of conservation for our future generations.
