Finger/wrist injury diagnoses

I'm trying to figure out what I did to my wrist and get a sense of what my likely recovery timetable looks like. I know I should probably see a PT or doctor but don't want to pay the money if I can float by without a medical visit.

I was at the gym and reached my right hand out laterally to pull on a small crimper. My aim was off and I grabbed the crimper without my index finger. I pulled violently and blew off the hold and I immediately felt a sharp pain all the way down my hand, wrist and 3/4 of the way up my forearm. I iced up and went home. Today is the day after. I definitely still have a lot of sensitivity, centered mostly around my wrist and at the base of my fingers, where they connect to my knuckles. I can open and close a fist just fine without pain; the easiest way to trigger the sensitivity is to keep my fingers straight and try to extend my wrist (like if I reach my arm out and try to make a "stop" hand gesture).

Any idea what I strained/ruptured?

Does it increase sensitivity if you leave your fingers in a fist and extend your wrist? Does it cause discomfort if you were to grip something hard?

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
