Hello guys :)

My name is Alex and I am new on that forum. In few months, I am gonna climb the Aconcagua in Argentina with a friend. I am following right now an intense physical training to get ready for that, I would like to work more the mental aspect of this hike, however I don't know in which direction I am supposed to go for that.

Would you have any book, video, podcast suggestion to get more knowledge on the mental preparation please?

A few books to get started:

Training for the New Alpinism - Steve House
Extreme Alpinism - Mark Twight

Confessions of a Serial Climber - Mark Twight
142 Below - Art Davidson

Honestly, the Training for new alpinism is a bit much for Aconcagua.

If you are doing the standard route you really only need to be able walk uphill endlessly, maybe put your crampons on.

As long as the weather is ok the main thing about climbing a big peak like Aconcagua is acclimatization and general fitness. You seem to be preparing for the general fitness part so just make sure you allow time to acclimate as you guys go up.

There is also the Secor guide to climbing Aconcagua that is available on amazon right now for no joke $0.01.

Training for the New Alpinism is a must read. Has a section on mental training that's really helpful.

Mental training for Aconcagua? Read the third (I think?) chapter of Lynn Hill's 'Climbing Free'!

Are you climbing the regular route or a technical route. I just got back from a trip to the La Ramada Range (100k North of Aconcagua) in December. Climbed in that range for about 4 weeks (up to 21,000K) and learned a ton.

If you actually read the Aconcagua chapter in Lynn Hill's book, I'll be here waiting for you to revoke my thanks.
