Go to North Conway. The best way to learn before you buy a bunch of equipment is to hire a guide for a few days. They will be able to help you decide what equipment you need.

On the first ascent of the eiger they only ate sticks of butter and sugar. Emulate the old timers

Helmet
Harness
Belay Device
Quick draws/shoulder length slings (12ish)
Crampon compatible boots
Crampons
Ice tools
10ish ice screws
Ice climbing gloves
Winter hat
Goretex jacket, gore tex pants
Synthetic puffy jacket
Smaller synthetic puffy pullover
Base layers
Socks
Hmm, that ought to do it.

Oh and as for brands. Clothing is all Patagonia except the Goretex is all Arcteryx. Gloves, tools, crampons and screws are all Black Diamond. I like a plastic helmet, others don't. Go with your gut on harness. Boots, go ahead and buy the best Sportivas you can afford.

Btw, this will all cost well over $2000
Have fun!

I wouldn't wear arc'teryx goretex pants until you learn how not to annihilate them with crampons.

If cash is not an issue then go with sarcasm's recommendations. Otherwise, you'd be surprised at how cheap you could get most stuff. Skip the big names (Patagonia, Arcteryx Gore-Tex, etc.)and think root capability (synthetic, waterproof-breathable, etc.) You need to stay warm and not get wet. Few chicks ice climb, so no need to impress with high fashion.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
