Movement is increasing its rates starting March 1st. Just a heads-up.

it's getting to be a bit much.... i think those of us who have been there since the beginning should have a grandfathered rate. and the stipulation that only "first timers" can use your 1 free monthly pass? come on...

When they sent an email titled "improvements and changes at movement" i knew it was going to be an email announcing a price increase. The improvement is a new sound system in the yoga studio. Yippee. The change is you pay more every month.

They have a great product but they sure seem like corporate whores that dont really care about giving back or helping foster the climbing community.

climbing friend,

The walls yes are nice for bad weather and no time, but the price it stings you like venereal disease of the rectum. Upon visits to Denver, make the bold flash somewhere else.

May I suggest they give better deal for punch pass? Or perhaps reduced rate for you to boulder only? With access to the meat cave?

Any improvement for the Boulder location would have to be in the form of parking.

Movement Boulder has MANY problems... parking being one of the major ones. But where's additional parking going to come from? Boulder is such a progressive hippy town right?... if you believe the hype, lol. How come more people don't ride their bikes, skateboards, pogo sticks, and cats to Movement? Oh right, there's not enough bike racks either. They're always overflowing. In the summer anyways, plenty of room in the winter due to the people of boulder being delicate flowers who can't handle sunny 50 degree "winter" days.

Well, there you go, seems like they're undercharging for the demand. Plenty of Movement Boulder (or other Boulder climb gym) patrons either don't live or work in Boulder. Your only hope is the new Louisville gym can attract enough climbers away from Boulder.

Actually you missed the point there. Are 2 bike bars 10 feet long each enough for any business with several hundred customers present at any given time? Common sense and simple math says no. Somebody failed at their job. I sure hope that you're right about the coming Louisville facility.

There is bright side. If the price goes up, the number of customers should go down, right?

Judging by the number of people belaying in their $800 Arc'Teryx/Patagonia expedition weight belay parkas in the Denver gym ("OMG, it's 68 degrees in here, it's freezing!"), I doubt $1 increase in the day pass price will keep them away.

I wouldn't really call it a monopoly. There are other climbing gyms in town.

^^^^^

There are other options in Boulder & there is a bouldering gym next to the Denver Movement. I'd say most of the country probably has no sympathy for us. Still, it's crazy that with all the new gym openings in the last few years, demand still outstrips supply in the front range (no idea how well Earth Trek is doing these days). And with the exploding real estate price, should the price increase come as a surprise?

climbing friend,

perhaps you open new gym not far from bowel movement denver? A place where I may be free to run and play and climb and flash for no more than $10-$15 per day visit, with no shirt and an excellent meat cave? With cheesesteaks and iced buckets of fishheads available? And coaches skilled in developing and training on adequate 4-plan progression? Also with star wars original trilogy always playing on big screen, and classes on meditation and utilizing the force? And routes where you can climb while being squirted with freezing water and slapped with frozen fish, to toughen your mental?

Movement's monthly prices have exactly zero to do with real estate prices

Even if a property is bought before the increase, property tax doesn't increase with real estate price? barrier to entry (of potential competitors) doesn't go up with real estate price? opportunity cost of not converting the location to something else doesn't go up with real estate price? living expense (& therefore wage pressure) of the employees/owners doesn't go up with real estate price?

Seriously?

well i was considering switching to movement in the next couple months. definitely not paying them $75/mo plus $75 start up fee, though. yuck.

Oh well,
It's bigger and less snobby than the Boulder Cock Rub, so they can get away with it. I guess that's just the going rate when a one bedroom apt. costs $1500/month...

Even at the new price ($870 annual paid-in-full), twice a week results in a per visit cost of $9.00. This is still a pretty good deal, considering the offerings. You'd be doing great if you did nothing but yoga sessions. By comparison, Core Power Yoga is $139/mo for unlimited sessions. Unlimited Crossfit is $160/mo.

Just sayin'.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
