If people would add a picture to climbs when they submit them.

Good point Jake, I just get more excited and get a better feel for the climb/quality esp. if it's somewhere I haven't been yet.

I agree. I also get excited about climbs when I see a great picture. In some areas where the bolt fairy is on caffeine (thank you, bolt fairy!), the guidebook becomes outdated very quickly, and pictures help you get on the right route.

Thank you to all the prolific picture posters!

It would be helpful if MP would find a way to put relevant pictures on the main crag page and leave those pictures that don't help identify the route to the slideshow.

What I think is much more important is a photo of the Area containing the route -- showing the route in a larger context of other routes and key terrain features.

That's a key thing that print guidebooks (and phone apps?) usually provide which MP often does not.

Many of the routes I submit lack an individual route photo, but I usually then provide a photo of its Area (with topo lines).

Overview photos, like what kenr talks about, is something we'd definitely like to have more of (we've called them "topo photos" in other instances).

At some point, we may even look for an intern or somebody who's interested in climbing all the best/most popular place in America and creating topo photos for the site. Oh yeah, and climb those routes while they're there :)

This is probably my best submission to date. I asked around about a line I saw, climbed it, photographed it, gave it a difficulty grade (which was too low) and did a topo. Others then climbed it, changed the grade, added more beta, and it's now available for anyone looking for something around the Springs for something sub-alpine to climb.

As an admin I sometimes move a good topo photo to the top so it is more convenient, other times I just have to go with a great photo that is more likely to get people psyched about a route and keep it visually interesting. I know I try to get photos for routes I put in, but it is sometimes hard to get good ones, especially in the east where you are often buried in the trees and with splotchy light. It would be nice if embedded photos in the description didn't disappear in the mobile app.

More photos are usually a good thing, but for routes and areas already having them, I wish people would sometimes be a little more selective in what they upload, and maybe delete the crappier ones once something better has come along so they don't just clog everything up. Do we really need 6 boring move by move sequence shots of some 1 star boulder problem? I know I pull my crappier ones once better stuff comes along.

Guideline #1: Don't be a jerk.
